Gustav Mahler: Nachtmusik I

Sara Mohr-Pietsch navigates a musical pathway to Gustav Mahler's Nachtmusik, the second movement from his Seventh Symphony.

Sara Mohr-Pietsch navigates a musical pathway to Gustav Mahler's Nachtmusik, the second movement from his Seventh Symphony. There's more night music, including a little of it from Mozart, as well as from Lili Boulanger. Mahler's piece features horn calls, which find an echo in music by Benjamin Britten, and there are cow bells, beloved also by Henry Mancini. And there's a song by Mahler's wife, Alma, before she was compelled to give up composing on Mahler's insistence.
