Navigating breast cancer in your 30s

Safa Mirza on breast cancer and how a 'hair funeral' helped her regain some control. Oncoplastic surgeon Anushka Chaudhry also discusses the stigmas still facing some South Asians.

When Safa Mirza found a lump in her breast at the age of 33, she wasn't expecting the cancer diagnosis that followed. But after navigating treatment for the last year, and being told she's now cancer free, she's passionate about helping others understand the realities of the condition.

Safa joins Amber Haque alongside consultant oncoplastic breast surgeon Anushka Chaudhry to talk about spotting the warning signs of breast cancer, as well as the impact of a diagnosis on work, relationships and fertility. They also discuss some of the the cultural taboos that can still make conversations about cancer harder in some South Asian communities. And Safa shares the story of the “hair funeral” that helped her gain back some control.
