The Frances Browne Literary Festival, adventures on ‘The Voice’ and the Islandmagee Witch Trials

Meeting new writers at The Frances Browne Literary Festival, a local’s adventure singing on ‘The Voice’ and revisiting the Islandmagee Witch Trials.

Helen Mark MBE presents BBC Radio Ulster’s weekly Ulster-Scots magazine this week alongside Rab Lennox, Jonnie Crawford and Willie Hill.

This week, we sent award winning Ulster-Scots writer Angeline King with a mic to document her time at the Frances Browne Literary Festival in Co Donegal. Named after the 19th century 'Blind Poetess of Ulster', the festival was attended by a number of new and established US writers. Angeline chatted to them and had them perform snippets of their work!

Meanwhile, Jonnie chats with Dr Marie Cassidy about her new RTE documentary investigating the fascinating if horrifying story behind Ireland’s Last Witch Trial - in Islandmagee.

Finally, Willie meets Ballynahinch singer Ryan Garnham who recounts his adventure on The Voice with Irish A cappella ensemble Ardú.

As always, listeners are invited to contact the programme with a good Ulster-Scots yarn or event to talk about. The easiest way to do that is by email – kintra@bbc.co.uk
