Too Important to Serve?

Good morning!
I LOVE the show Undercover Boss! You know, where a CEO goes undercover as an employee, only to discover what REALLY goes down in their company! And the best bit? When employees discover the colleague they’ve been complaining to is actually their BOSS! Well, I had my own Undercover Boss moment recently! I was invited to a dinner where I knew absolutely nobody. I found my name card and sat beside a lovely man called James, who’d been busy welcoming guests. We chatted all evening. Work, family, life. The usual dinner conversation! Then, after the main course, the organisers introduced their final speaker. “Please welcome our CEO…JAMES!”
MY JAW DROPPED! My new mate got up, and the room erupted in applause! His speech was incredible. I had no idea how much he’d done to serve the people and the communities in that room. When he returned, I laughed. “Why didn’t you tell me you were the CEO?!” He smiled. “Titles don’t matter around here. We all play our part.”
WOW. What a beautiful picture of God’s upside-down Kingdom! In a world where people often serve those with big titles, Jesus, the greatest of all, with the biggest title of Lord of Lords and King of Kings, said Nope! I have come not to be served, but to serve. So whether you’re a CEO, director, manager or team leader, how might you use your position to welcome and serve others today?
I pray.
Gracious God, thank you that your Kingdom turns worldly expectations upside down. Jesus, though you had all authority, you humbled yourself and took the form of a servant. Help us lead with humility just like you, welcome with kindness and use whatever influence we have to lift others up.
Amen.
