Why is the congestion so bad in Worcester?
A lane closure on Worcester Bridge is causing more than 30minute delays at peak times. The works are to repair damage from when a police car hit the bridge in March 2026.
A lane closure on Worcester Bridge is causing more than 30minute delays at peak times.
The works are to repair damage from when a police car hit the bridge in March 2026. A large section of masonry was sent in to the River Severn.
One lane is expected to remain closed for up to three weeks, meaning severe congestion for those driving in to Worcester city centre, particularly from St John's and coming down Hylton Road.
Worcestershire County Council says that the repairs require specialist materials and conservation techniques, using carefully selected stone that closely matches the existing structure. Pedestrian access will remain available throughout the works.
