Wild: Hartlepool 'certainly moving in the right direction'

Hartlepool United boss Pete Wild says he is not expecting to sign any new players to help their attempts to climb up the National League table.

Despite back-to-back victories against Forest Green Rovers and Hornchurch, a 3-1 defeat by AFC Fylde on Tuesday leaves Pools just above the relegation zone on goal difference.

"The market you are fishing in is a market of people who are not playing at their current club, and unless we go and pay £50k to £100k on somebody, we're not going to get anybody different," Wild told BBC Radio Tees.

"Or, you go into the young loan market, and I think we've got enough young players in the building at the moment.

"So, Jack [Earing - who has returned to parent club Barrow] going back doesn't really help the case but we've got to try and get more out of the people we've got at the moment."

Wild's side head to National League runaway leaders Boreham Wood, who have taken the division by storm so far this season, on Saturday.

The Wood have already raced into a 10-point lead at the top of the table, dropping just four points so far from their first 15 league games in which they have racked up 40 goals.

"It's a great game isn't it? It's brilliant," Wild said. "I want to play against the best teams. I want to go toe-to-toe against the best teams, and I don't want our team to fear them.

"I want them to go, 'right you've been on a great run of form, but we're going to be the ones that stop you'.

"We're going to give everything we've got and we've got to relish it. What a great game for us, and what a great game to go and test ourselves."
