Leicester assistant Hourihane leaves after four months

Conor Hourihane retired as a player in December 2024 to become Barnsley assistant head coach

Leicester City assistant manager Conor Hourihane has left the League One club after just over four months in the job.
The 35-year-old joined the Foxes as Russell Martin's number two in June, following a 14-month stint as Barnsley manager which concluded at the end of the 2025-26 season.
He took up his role at King Power Stadium to help rebuild the one-time Premier League title winners after back-to-back relegations from the top flight and Championship landed them in the third tier for just the second time in the club's 142-year history.
A slow start to the season by the Foxes, in which they have won five and lost four of their opening 13 league games, has heaped pressure on boss Martin.
And while Martin has survived criticism, the exit of former Republic of Ireland, Aston Villa, Derby and Barnsley midfielder Hourihane exit makes for a high-profile departure.
Martin retains the rest of his coaching staff, which includes Andy King, Tom Weal and Rhys Owen, while loans manager Steve Morison joins the backroom staff to "provide coaching support".
