Glasgow City scored twice late on to come from two down and salvage a draw against defending SWPL champions Hearts.

Mariana Speckmaier's effort from distance for the hosts was comfortably held by goalkeeper Erin Clachers and, at the other end, Hearts keeper Rachael Johnstone had to look lively to tip Lisa Evans' dipping shot over the bar.

Hearts' energy and pressing caused all sorts of problems for City and eventually resulted in their opening goal. Speckmaier did not give Clachers a moment as the keeper gathered from a back pass and tried to clear, the ball ricocheting off Speckmaier into the back of the net.

Glasgow tried to respond and Johnstone kept out an effort from Kelly Brady, with Lisa Forrest unable to quite control the ball on the follow-up.

As half-time approached, Hearts hit the bar not once but twice, headers from Monica Forsyth and then the lively Speckmaier both smacking off the goal frame.

Kayla Jardine had been a real threat all afternoon and doubled Hearts' lead. Her header took a wicked deflection off City defender Evans on its way past Clachers.

However, City reacted well and piled on the pressure, prompting their comeback. Emily Gray raced on to a lovely through ball and, although her shot was on the weak side, it trundled over the line after beating Johnstone's outstretched hand.

And the Hearts keeper could do nothing about City's equaliser. Jesi Rossman's long-range strike was unstoppable - her first goal for City.

  2. Second-half goals secure Spartans win at Motherwellpublished at 16:16 BST 27 September

    FT: Motherwell 0-2 Spartans

Spartans picked up their second win of the SWPL season with a hard-fought victory at Motherwell.

Both sides came into the match following defeats and with only a point separating them, promising a tight contest. And so it proved with shots on target few and far between in the first half.

Spartans finally broke the deadlock as the hour approached. Izzy Young found Niamh Noble, who fired home.

Then, with two minutes remaining, Olivia Hurrell's strike secured an impressive win on the road.

Spartans remain seventh in the table but move on to seven points while Well have sustained three successive losses.

  3. McGoldrick double as Partick Thistle beat Montrosepublished at 15:43 BST 27 September

    FT: Partick Thistle 3-2 Montrose

Patrick Thistle scored three times in six second-half minutes to overturn a two-goal deficit and seal victory against SWPL visitors Montrose.

Montrose led at half-time courtesy of a Hannah Stewart shot from outside the box and extended that advantage early in the second period, Georgia Carter heading in.

Thistle were back in the game just after the hour mark, Abby Robinson with the finish, and were soon level as Sienna McGoldrick netted from close range.

And McGoldrick grabbed her second of the afternoon to secure Thistle's second league win of the season, while Montrose remain at the foot of the table without any points.

  4. Smith on target again as Hibs defeat Donspublished at 14:13 BST 27 September

    FT: Aberdeen 0-2 Hibernian

Hibernian made it back-to-back SWPL wins as they heaped more misery on struggling Aberdeen.

The visitors carved out plenty of opportunities before they broke the deadlock. Fresh from her hat-trick last weekend, Libby Smith put Hibs ahead.

Smith was indirectly involved in the second and clinching goal too. Aberdeen defender Selin Cemal was aware of the danger from Yuliia Khrystiuk's low drive towards goal and, with Smith lurking, she could only turn the ball into her own net.

The win moves Hibs on to 13 points - five points off leaders Rangers - while defeat for Aberdeen means they are still looking for their first point of the campaign and sit joint bottom with Montrose.

  5. Rangers move clear at top with win over Celticpublished at 14:12 BST 27 September

    FT: Rangers 5-2 Celtic

Rangers came from behind to win the season's first SWPL Old Firm derby against Celtic and move three points clear at the top.

The commanding display also maintained Leanne Crichton's side's 100% record in the league but they trailed after 12 minutes.

Poppy Lawson's delivery was not dealt with, leaving Maria McAneny unmarked to head in brilliantly.

Losing the early goal seemed to galvanise Rangers and they were soon level. Laura Berry's pinpoint cross sat up perfectly for Jodie McLeary to volley in.

Calliste Brookshire pounced on a loose pass and set up McLeary for her second of the afternoon to put Rangers in front for the first time.

McAneny came close to grabbing an equaliser for Celtic with another header but this time Rangers did clear the danger.

However, Celtic started the second half well and were back in the game after getting the better of a goal mouth scramble.

The initial danger was cleared but the ball eventually fell to Chloe Arthur, who fired in from close range.

Again Rangers responded strongly. Katie Wilkinson came close twice as they piled on the pressure and Crichton made changes as her side looked for the winner.

And Hannah Blake was barely on the pitch when she made it 3-2. She was quick to react to a slack pass and coolly finish off.

Rangers were rampant and Wilkinson furthered their lead as she curled in a magnificent free-kick.

Much of Rangers' impressive performance came through the energy of Brookshire, so it was fitting she scored her side's fifth and final goal.

She danced into the area and finished off on the angle to cap a brilliant win for Rangers as Grant Scott's Celtic sustained a season's first loss.
