Nottingham Forest have appointed former Olympiacos vice president Theodore Giannikos as chief executive.

He replaces Lina Souloukou who stepped down from the role at the City Ground at the end of last season.

A statement from the club said Giannikos "will lead the club's strategic direction and oversee the delivery of its long-term ambitions, both on and off the pitch".

He worked at Fifa as director of strategic partnerships and media projects and was director of legal strategic projects and director of Member Associations Services during a decade at world football's governing body.

Giannikos also served as an executive board member of the European Club Association (ECA) from 2012 to 2016.

  2. Smaller but stronger - Fray on Glasner's Forest squadpublished at 15:19 BST 2 September

Nottingham Forest negotiated a total of five incomings over the summer transfer window.

Two players came in on free transfers; Xaver Schlager, who Oliver Glasner very much wanted, and Steven Benda, who has strengthened the goalkeeping cover a little bit - but there have also been some big money signings.

The club has spent £22m on Daniel Munoz, a potential club-record £50m on Liam Delap and £34m on Ousmane Diomande. All of which are players Glasner wanted. All of which will fit into his system.

When we cast our minds back, Glasner was very insistent that he wanted to sign two players before the end of the transfer window. Those two players have turned out to be Delap and Munoz, so he will be happy with the squad he has got.

A lot of fans might look at the squad and feel it is a bit thin. There are currently 23 senior players, plus Jair Cunha, so there are two slots to fill on that squad list.

That being said, I don't detect any discontent from Glasner about the business that has been done. They have essentially had a window for him.

After the Carabao Cup tie against Leeds United, he did say: "Let's see how the squad looks at the end of the transfer window; then if we need to change the shape, we will change the shape."

When you look at what's happened at the end of the transfer window - with the likes of natural wingers Dilane Bakwa and Omari Hutchinson going out on loan - it has very much been a case of Glasner-style players coming in.

I don't think we will see a change of shape now. If you look at the current squad, it is very much tailored to a 3-5-2 formation.

Maybe they are a central defender short but there are only 16 games until the next window opens, free agents are available, and other squad members can fill in if needed.

I don't think he ever wanted wholesale changes because I think he was fairly happy with the squad he inherited anyway, but they have added quality in the areas he specifically highlighted.

The fact that Forest didn't feel the need to sign anybody on deadline day just kind of says it all about the difference in approach this time around.

But the proof in the pudding will be in the eating, so we will see how Glasner and his squad cope with the next 16 Premier League games.

In my opinion, the current squad is small but stronger than it was at the start of the transfer window, with the caveat of not really ever wanting to lose a player like Elliot Anderson.

  3. Glasner can now start to shape Forestpublished at 13:13 BST 2 September

Quality over quantity was Nottingham Forest's plan this summer.

Oliver Glasner prefers to work with a small squad so there was never going to be a huge influx, as in previous years.

Liam Delap's £50m arrival and the successful £34m pursuit of Ousmane Diomande adds depth and quality in key areas.

Glasner will look for Diomande to slot alongside Murillo and Nikola Milenkovic in a back three while Daniel Munoz has followed him from Crystal Palace and puts Ola Aina's position under threat at right-back.

Delap is the perfect long-term replacement for Chris Wood and should be able to rediscover momentum and form after his Chelsea nightmare with regular games at Forest.

Xaver Schlager is someone Glasner knows and trusts from their time at Wolfsburg together, even if there was no headline replacement to fill the void left by Elliot Anderson.

With no European football the squad will be able to handle the demands following last season's run to the Europa League semi-finals, which left them decimated by the time they played Aston Villa in their heavy second leg defeat.

There is an unusual familiarity to the squad, especially following last summer's 13 arrivals, and Glasner has stated he is not a magician and to not expect instant results. Now however, he has the chance and the time to shape his team.

Nottingham Forest defender Morato has joined West Ham on a season-long loan, with the option to make the deal permanent.

The 25-year-old reunites with former Forest boss Nuno Espirito Santo at the London Stadium.

The Hammers had been interested in Wolves' Ladislav Krejci but the Czechia international does not want to move to another Championship club, with Wolves unwilling to sell to a promotion rival.

Morato joined Forest from Benfica in 2024 and made 66 appearances in all competitions.

The defender was named in the team of the tournament for the 2025-26 Europa League and played in all but two games in the competition as Forest reached the last four.

Nottingham Forest defender Zach Abbott has signed a new contract and joined Southampton on a season-long loan.

He has signed a four-year deal at the City Ground after a breakthrough season, which saw him make his Premier League debut and play seven times in the Europa League.

The 20-year-old made his senior debut against Newcastle in the Carabao Cup in 2024 and has made 12 appearances in all competitions.

Abbott, who has come through the club's academy, said: "I had memorable experiences last year that have given me even more hunger to improve and continue my development.

"This club has been my home for nearly 10 years, and I have a big sense of pride every time I pull on the shirt.

"It's a great feeling to extend my contract further and now it's about continuing to work hard every day and gaining as much experience as possible to put me in the best position to represent this club for the years ahead."

The details of the contract are currently unknown, but the 20-year-old is expected to put pen to paper before heading out on loan to Championship side Southampton.

Abbott made 10 first-team appearances last season, including seven run-outs in the Reds' journey to the Europa League semi-finals.

He is expected to return to Forest at the end of any loan spell.
