We asked for your thoughts after Middlesbrough beat Wolves 1-0 on Saturday to climb into the Championship's automatic promotion spots.

Here are some of your comments:

    Middlesbrough fans

KiddyChris: Hanging on at the end, but you'd possibly expect that against a good team. Fair play to Wolves, really pushed us back. But I think the best team won. Just. Feels like a big win, and finally a home clean sheet. Both teams will be up there in May. Fingers crossed this time…

David: Great result against a big rival. Lankshear has to be the buy of the season.

Paul: Haven't reached the heights of last season in terms of performance but now getting three points when we would get beat last year.

Noa: I thought Boro played a controlled game and won in a composed convincing way.

Andrew: Excellent and well done to all on this auspicious 150th anniversary. You had me worried for a while there at the end.

AyresomeAngel: Great header by our new centre-forward, nicely set up by T.C. Very useful 3 points against a good side, who, like us, are better off for the loss of a certain manager!

    Wolves fans

Alan: Probably the worst performance of the season. Both full-backs run ragged.

Djiga lucky not to see red early in the first half. Good job he wasn't as he played really well.

No threat up front except when Munetsi was involved. Armstrong did well to rob the keeper but looked amateurish when he gifted the ball back to him. Total lack of ability to make an accurate pass into the penalty area. Improved with the subs but difficult to say why.

James still has to show what he can do. Fer Lopez worked hard, but never got up to speed. Need a major attitude adjustment if we are to stay in the chase!

Chris C: Two decent sides Wolves looked like the break came at the wrong time. But nothing between the two sides and still very optimistic about the season.

Mike: No complaints about the result I thought Boro were the better side overall and Peixoto is kidding himself if he really thinks a draw would have been a fairer result. Wolves never really got going until they went behind and wasted the half chances they created when chasing the equaliser.

Wol: We have played two of the favourites for promotion and lost to them both. We lack a target man up front playing with two wide men and Armstrong up top. We won't win games. None of our balls in the box found a Wolves player. Defensive errors cause us problems as always.

John: Wolves management still have not realised that without a goalscorer who can score 14 or 15 goals in the season at this level, they can never achieve automatic promotion. At present top six at best is their level. And this comment from a supporter of the club for 70 years.

  2. Peixoto encouraged despite Boro losspublished at 18:33 BST 10 October

Peixoto: 'Our decision making could be better'

Wolves boss Cesar Peixoto has taken positives from his side's response to going a goal down in their 1-0 defeat to Middlesbrough on Saturday.

"In the second half, we were better after we conceded the goal," Peixoto told BBC Radio WM.

"The team reacted; this is team is a big team, a strong team. The guys who come from the bench improve the team.

"In the first half, we have to have more time with the ball like we did in the second half. In the second half, it's ours. We [are] pushing, we press, we go high, we created a lot of chance to cross inside of the box.

"The right result is a draw but congratulations to Middlesbrough.

"Only a strong team react like that. I told the team that if we react like that we are going to win more games than lose for sure."

  3. Wolves cannot hang their hopes on one playerpublished at 10:40 BST 9 October

You could almost feel a collective eye-roll across Wolverhampton on Monday as news emerged of Fer Lopez arriving home early from international duty with Spain Under-21s.

While the word went out the reported 'physical discomfort' was a minor issue and probably not much to worry about, it was not hard to find fans thinking this was typical of Wolves in 2026.

Just as things are starting to go well, something would have to happen to the leading light of their season so far, wouldn't it?

    It is an understandable reflex.

Perhaps Cesar Peixoto will be able to tell us a little more at his Friday press conference, although the teamsheet on Saturday at Middlesbrough will be the definitive word.

Hopefully the likeable Lopez, who was in bubbly mood after scoring in the Black Country derby last time out, will be able to shrug it off in time to play at The Riverside.

It is though a reminder Wolves will not be able to gain promotion this season by hanging their hopes on one player, even one blossoming as rapidly as Lopez.

Yes, he would be in everyone's best XI at the moment and given his early form no Wolves fan would want to go into a game without him.

But the days when claiming a manager "doesn't know his best XI" was a justifiable protest have passed.

Lopez is a prime asset in this Wolves squad and will surely be too important to take a risk with at this early stage of the season.

With luck, he will be fine and good to go on Saturday, but if not there will be opportunities for others, perhaps Jordan James to fill the gap.

That could be a good outcome too, as the more Wolves' players who can be kept sharp by sharing in regular action, the better.

They will all be needed at some stage. It is in periods like the one about to start that clubs with the stronger squads in the Championship, as Wolves appeared to be just before the break, should be able to make that count.
