The picture near Inverness this morning is bleak.

The wind howled overnight and my garden flooded this morning.

Several trees are down blocking vital local roads, and the winds continue to blow strongly with no sign of slowing down.

    Traffic is noticeably quieter, unsurprisingly.

After feeding my dogs this morning, the feed bowls went in the wind.

Inverness Airport has some cancellations and the Kessock Bridge into the city is closed to high sided vehicles.

I think I’ll stay in today.

Dramatic images shared on social media last night showed the River Clyde bursting its southern banks in Renfrew.

This morning the water has subsided, but the impact can be seen all through the town. The water has come up leaving rubbish strewn across the street.

Cars have been moved and dumped onto pavements. Bins have been upended and dumped across the street – a familiar sight in weather like this.

Local businesses, including the Foundry Gym, have posted about having to close due to flooding.

It was still wet and windy out there this morning as I walked around the town.

The gusts of wind here are so powerful, it’s difficult to walk upright.

All trains are cancelled and it’s easy to see why.

A damaged railway level crossing is shown with choppy waters in the background.

By the station, which sits near to the shore, there is clear damage to the level crossing barrier, and it looks as though water has made it up to the tracks at some point overnight.

Storm debris is shown littered across a field, with a park bench in the middle.
    Image caption,

It seems whatever was in the Clyde has been churned up beyond the shoreline and now lays strewn along a grassy embankment which runs in between the station and the sea.

A damaged fence is shown on the shoreline, with the posts and panels blown over on the ground.

The barriers which separated the beach from the walkway have come out of their concrete moulds and lay scattered across the car park, near the entrance to the sawmill. There is a path along the other side to the village, but you can’t see it for all the debris.
