Taylor Drift or Gritney Spears... Kent's new gritter names are cold!

With the winter months well and truly on their way, it might not be too long before we start seeing some snow and ice on our roads.

To get rid of it, so people can drive safely, gritters are used to spread salt that will melt the ice.

And in Kent, these gritters have got some pretty brrrrr-illiant names!

Kent County Council (KCC) has bought 62 brand new gritters to spread salt on the roads, and children in the area were asked to name them.

They were unveiled at KCC's annual Gritter Parade, which allows the drivers of the big salt-spreaders to get used to their vehicle.

Some of the winners include Gritty Gritty Bang Bang, Taylor Drift, and one is named after the friendly snowman from Frozen, Olaf.

Children from school holiday clubs came to the event, and were taught how gritters work, as well as learning how to keep safe in the winter months.

Pupils Isiah and Francesco said their number one choice was Salter Claus.

Francesco said he had been excited to see the "very cool" lorries, and Isiah said he was waiting to see the trucks move, adding: "I'm excited to see it spray the salt."

Councillor Peter Osborne said children had been asked to draw pictures of the gritters and put ideas for names in a hat.

He said his favourite was Grittersaurus Rex, which has returned for a second year, adding: "I think she's a star."
