Sailm nan Daoine

Tha an ceòladair Rob MacNeacail air turas gus cumhachd seinn nan salm Gàidhlig a sgaoileadh. Musician Rob MacNeacail is on a mission to spread the power of Gaelic psalm singing.

Tha Rob MacNeacail air turas gus sailm Ghàidhlig a sheinn is a sgaoileadh. ’S e film tarraingeach is togarrach a tha seo mu chumhachd na coimhearsnachd, an teaghlaich is an seasmhachd a tha a dhìth gus cànan a chumail beò.

Thòisich Rob air na sailm a ghabhail ann an Carlops gus comharrachadh ceann-bliadhna bàs athar, am bàrd Aonghas MacNeacail. Ged a tha na seiseanan a’ còrdadh ri muinntir a’ bhaile, tha Rob ga cheasnachadh fhèin a bheil còir aige a bhith a’ teagasg nan salm. Cha do dh’ionnsaich e mar a stiùireas e an t-seinn ach o chionn ghoirid, agus cha deach a thogail san eaglais. Chan eil Rob aig tàmh is e a’ faireachdainn gum feum e falbh air turas gus cluinntinn mar a bhios na Gàidheil a’ seinn nan salm anns na coimhearsnachdan a tha a’ cumail an traidisein beò.

Bheir an turas e bho na h-Eileanan an Iar gu Corcaigh an Iar, a’ leantainn seann shlighean a bheireas ceòl is beachdan ùra gu bith.

Rob MacNeacail embarks on a mission to sing Gaelic psalms. An entertaining and heartwarming film about the power of community, family and the resilience needed to keep a language alive.

Rob started singing the psalms in his home village of Carlops to mark the anniversary of the death of his father, the poet Aonghas MacNeacail. Although the sessions are popular with locals, Rob starts to question his authority to teach the psalms, as he only learned how to precent relatively recently and didn’t grow up in the church.

As spring turns to summer, Rob starts to feel restless and decides to hit the road to reconnect with his Gaelic roots and hear how psalms are sung by Gaels in the communities that nurture the tradition. His journey takes him from the Western Isles to West Cork in Ireland, following well-trodden ancient paths that unravel threads of music and ideas along the way.
