Kilmarnock manager Neil McCann looks devastated as he gives his post-match reaction.

"It's quite painful, aye, painful for the whole club," he tells Premier Sports. "Not enough done with [the man advantage]. They just kept smashing it on top of us.

"It's the sorest way to lose a game. We never did enough with the ball. Not enough of us took responsibility tonight. That gave them a chance to hang on.

"They asked us questions because we were leaving ourselves exposed. All in all, across the board it's painful. We've missed out on a great opportunity."

Aberdeen boss Stephen Robinson tells Premier Sports: "We made it tough for ourselves. To a man, I'm very, very proud of the team. They ran themselves into the ground.

"We should have won the game in normal time. Another semi-final... I've been there a few times now, looking forward to it.

"I've no doubts about the players in terms of their character. Sometimes a result like that can be the catalyst for your season. Now is an opportunity to try and kick on.

"It has certainly given us a lift. Hopefully the belief comes."

Kevin Nisbet says Aberdeen will now go into Tuesday's Premiership trip to Motherwell full of confidence.

That match at Fir Park will tell us if tonight is going to be a turning point in the Dons' season.

Kilmarnock, meanwhile, travel to Hibernian.

Aberdeen captain Kevin Nisbet has been heaping praise on shootout hero Marius Muller after his penalty heroics.

"I had every faith in him, look at the size of him," the striker tells Premier Sports. "He's obviously a great keeper. The big man produced."

On Ayoub Mouloua's Panenka spot-kick, Nisbet adds: "The gaffer's reaction... honestly."

It's a huge night for Stephen Robinson. It gives these 2,000 fans who travelled down a bit of hope. It'll be a difficult game on Tuesday night [at Motherwell]. But it gives Robinson some brething space.

A second straight League Cup semi-final for Stephen Robinson, then.

Last year he got through the last-four stage and of course led St Mirren to glory in the final.

Tonight could be a huge turning point in the Aberdeen boss' reign.

Ayoub Mouloua must have something about him to attempt this.

Easily the standout penalty. Nerves of steel from the Dons substitute.

Everything is cleared now and it's party time among the Aberdeen fans.

Stephen Robinson looks a relieved man. He will also be immensely proud of his side.

There's a bit of a pitch invasion from the away end and this is in danger of spilling over.

The 10 men of Aberdeen have done it!

Jack Milne smashes in the decisive penalty.

THREE misses on the trot for Killie.

Another stutter and Aaron Tshibola puts it into the hands of Marius Muller.

Oi oi, Ayoub Mouloua.

The Aberdeen sub dinks it right down the middle and it comes off.

The look on Stephen Robinson's face there. Gold.

Two misses in a row for Killie as Mark O'Hara watches his attempt get saved by Marius Muller.

Another poor attempt.

Alexander Briedl sends the keeper the wrong way.

Top spot-kick, that.

It's a miss each.

Tyreece John-Jules stutters, but Marius Muller guesses right.

Nesta Guinness-Walker is denied by Max Stryjek.

It isn't anywhere near a corner.

Joe Hugill slams Kilmarnock in front.

Great penalty into the left-hand corner.

Killie to take first...

At the Aberdeen end.

There's been something oddly compelling about this match.

Low on quality bar a few moments of inspiration, it has nevertheless kept the interest - albeit the first half of extra time was a non-event.

Neil McCann gave his players a fire and brimstone team talk there, will it be enough?

As for Aberdeen, has the adversity of being a man down helped galvanise them?
