West Brom will aim to close the gap at the top of the Championship as they welcome Millwall to the Hawthorns on Saturday (15:00 GMT).

The Baggies are sixth, but only three points behind leaders Middlesbrough, after a 1-1 draw at home to Southampton on Tuesday which made it five games unbeaten from which Albion have claimed 11 points.

The Lions are 13th, five points adrift of the play-off places, after a 3-0 defeat at Birmingham the same night and have taken only four points from their past five games.

    • West Brom are winless in their past 10 league games against Millwall (D7 L3) since a 2-0 away win in February 2020.

    • Millwall are winless in their past eight away league games against West Brom (D6 L2). Each of their past six visits have finished level, with the past four ending 0-0 – no specific fixture has ever finished goalless in five consecutive matches in English Football League history.

    • West Brom have lost just one of their past 14 home league games (W5 D8), going down 1-0 against Birmingham last month.

    • Millwall have lost four of their past six away league games (W1 D1), including the past two in a row. They last lost three consecutively in March/April 2024.

    • Isaac Price has been involved in four goals in his past five league games (3 goals, 1 assist), with all of these either putting West Brom ahead (2) or drawing them level (2).

  3. Lack of clinical edge was a big problem - Neilpublished at 09:36 GMT 4 November

    Media caption,

    Neil: 'We lacked clinical edge'

Millwall boss Alex Neil spoke to BBC Radio London after the 3-0 defeat at Birmingham City in the Championship.

"We conceded from about 35 yards in the first minute of the game. It seemed to knock us," Neil said.

"We have had three or four good opportunities in the first half to score but we didn't take any of them.

"The fact we have created the chances is a good thing because we looked threatening, but the lack of clinical edge in the final third was a big problem for us.

"Goals change games. The lack of discipline in the first half didn't help us, albeit they have had four shots and three of them go in the back of our net.

"We are really disappointed that we didn't manage to build on the weekend. It is disappointing the manner we have lost the game.

"We have to bounce back on Saturday and show what we are capable of doing."

The Birmingham City and Millwall club crests side by side

Both Birmingham City and Millwall returned to winning ways in the Championship at the weekend and meet in the Midlands on Tuesday night (20:00 GMT).

Blues have won only two of their six home games so far this season but are one of four Championship sides yet to be beaten by an away side.

    • Birmingham have won just two of their past 13 league games against Millwall (D6 L5), though one of those was a 4-0 victory in this exact fixture last season.

    • Millwall are winless in six away league games against Birmingham, with five consecutive draws being followed by a 4-0 loss last season.

    • Birmingham are unbeaten in nine home league games (W5 D4), beating Preston 4-0 and QPR 3-0 in their past two. They last won three in a row without conceding in the second tier (or higher) in March 2009.

    • Millwall have lost three of their past five away league games (W1 D1), more than they had in their previous 16 on the road (W9 D5).

    • Millwall have scored first in five of their six Championship away games so far this season, but have failed to win more of those (D1 L2) than they've won (2).

Millwall will aim to get back on track as they welcome lowly Derby to The Den on Saturday (15:00 GMT).

The Lions have taken just six points from their past seven Championship games and went down 2-1 at Portsmouth last Saturday to slip into the bottom-half, five points adrift of the play-off spots.

The Rams are second-bottom and have taken just three points from their past eight games and were pegged back late-on to draw 1-1 at Sheffield United last time out.

    • Millwall are unbeaten across their past seven league games against Derby County (W4 D3), scoring exactly one goal in six of those matches.

    • Derby County have won just two of their past 13 league games against Millwall (D4 L7), though both victories have come away from home.

    • Having won their opening two league games this season, Millwall have now won just two of their past 10 (D3 L5).

    • Derby have just one league win this season and are winless in their past eight (D3 L5). However, five of their seven points so far this term have come away from home.

    • Derby are the only side yet to score from a set piece in the Championship this season, while the Rams have also had fewer different goalscorers than anyone else (5, excluding own goals).

  7. Portsmouth 2-1 Millwall - fans' verdictpublished at 11:11 GMT 26 October

A black banner with the words 'Your Opinions' written across in white lettering next to an image of a megaphone

We asked for your thoughts after Saturday's Championship match between Portsmouth and Millwall.

    Here are some of them:

    Portsmouth fans

Michael: OK, we're more Greece 2004 than Brazil 1970 but frankly who cares! Honestly, these results are amazing. The peaceful pastures of mid-table obscurity beckons.

David: Pompey were below par but got the important three points. It was fortunate but in this league anyone can beat anyone. It is nice to see them in the top half of the table. I just hope they can maintain the positive run seen in last few games.

Michael: Scrappy game in awful conditions. Centre-backs immense. Get Toby Steward back off loan.

    Millwall fans

David: Really disappointing result. Millwall's big promotion push season is turning into a slide into a relegation battle. I hate to blame one person but with [Lukas] Jensen and [Filip] Marschall out we're left with [Max] Crocombe in goal and he just isn't up to it. Until we sort this situation out we're going to keep getting bad results.

Bill: Not sure what game Alex [Neil] was watching, I thought we were poor over most of the pitch.

Phil: No forwards, midfield tired, only one goalkeeper because we have no options. Worried is a under statement, it's a mess. We need our injured players as soon as possible before it gets even worse.

Portsmouth will hope to continue their decent run of form when they welcome Millwall to Fratton Park in the Championship on Saturday lunchtime (kick-off 12:30 BST).

Pompey have won two and drawn at Wolves since losing the south coast derby to Southampton to move within two points of the play-offs and seven clear of the relegation zone.

Since winning their opening two matches, the Lions have won just twice in nine games (D3 L4) and are level on points with Portsmouth but ahead of them in the table on goals scored.

    • Portsmouth won both league meetings with Millwall 3-1 last season, having failed to win any of the previous five encounters (D1 L4).

    • Millwall have won two of their past three away league games against Portsmouth (L1) - this after winning on just one of their prior 18 visits to Fratton Park between September 1971 and December 2010.

    • Portsmouth have won two of their past three home league games (D1), as many as in their previous 10 at Fratton Park (D2 L6).

    • Millwall have won just one of their previous six league games (D3 L2), though could record successive away league wins for the first time since March.

    • Only West Ham United (8) have scored more goals from set pieces (ex. penalties) in the Championship this season than Millwall (6), while they lead the division for xG from set pieces (6.8).

  10. Millwall boss Neil reacts to Lincoln drawpublished at 17:48 BST 17 October

    Media caption,

Neil: 'Probably as poor as we've been in my time here!'

Millwall boss Alex Neil spoke to BBC Radio London after his side came from two goals down to draw 2-2 with Lincoln City.

"Probably as poor as we've been first half in the time that I've been here. The only positive I'll take from it is we didn't lose.

"We didn't have any fighting spirit in the first half - we lost every header and every duel. We didn't deal with anything that we normally do particularly well.

"It's a frustrating one. From a performance point of view I'm disappointed but the fact that we did manage to come back and didn't lose it a positive."

(On the handball prior to Lincoln's second goal) "The whole stadium shouted for a handball. Not only is it a handball but he stops the ball running out of play. My question would be if he was on the goalline and he stopped the ball going in the net would he say it was accidental? I very much doubt so. It was a poor decision."

  11. Pick of the stats: Millwall v Lincoln Citypublished at 10:30 BST 16 October
