Chuks Aneke helped Charlton to promotion from League One in the 2024-25 season

Former MK Dons and Charlton Athletic striker Chuks Aneke has confirmed his retirement from playing.

The 33-year-old came through Arsenal's academy but made just one first-team appearance for the Gunners, in 2011.

it was as a late substitute in a League Cup game against Shrewsbury Town, coincidentally the team he would end his career with 15 years later.

In between, he played for Belgian side Zulte Waregem, MK Dons, Charlton and Birmingham City, and also had loan spells with Stevenage, Preston North End and Crewe Alexandra.

He scored 94 goals in 414 games during his career, 24 of them during two loan spells at Crewe between 2012 and 2014, earning him a move into Belgium's top flight after his release by Arsenal.

He scored just four times in 41 games for Waregem, but did net in the Europa League.

He was more successful at MK Dons, with 33 goals in 94 appearances, and Charlton, where, across two spells, he played 138 games and scored 27 times.

He also had a year in the Championship at Birmingham and played the first half of last season with Shrewsbury, with his final appearance coming against Bristol Rovers on New Year's Day.

Scott Hogan played 56 games for MK Dons but left the club at the end of last season

Wigan Athletic have signed former Republic of Ireland striker Scott Hogan on a short-term deal until January.

Hogan, 34, left MK Dons at the end of last season after joining them on a free transfer from Birmingham City in October 2024.

Wigan will hope he can add to their firepower after making a slow start to their League One campaign, but Hogan's only goal for MK Dons last season came almost a year ago.

The much-travelled Hogan made his name at Brentford in the Championship, prompting Aston Villa to sign him for a reported £9m, rising to £12m, in January 2017, while he has also had spells at Rochdale, Stoke and Sheffield United.
