Plymouth Argyle forward Oli Irow has won the League One goal of the month award for September.

The 20-year-old, who is on loan at Home Park from Premier League side Tottenham Hotspur, blasted a long-range effort into the top corner against Barnsley on 12 September to win the award.

The strike in the first minute of the game was his first in league football for the Pilgrims.

"It's probably the best goal I've scored in my professional career so far but most importantly it set us on the way to three important points," Irow said.

"We've been in a really good moment as a team, and I feel really happy with my contributions individually as well. This is just the start though and I hope I can contribute more goals and assists as we look to continue our good start to the season."

Irow beat his team-mate Harvey White, Luton Town's Callum Marshall and Milton Keynes Dons' Aaron Collins to win the award.

  2. Plymouth Argyle get Pepple injury boostpublished at 07:15 BST 16 October

Bim Pepple has scored six goals in his past seven Plymouth Argyle appearances

Plymouth Argyle top-scorer Bim Pepple will be available for the visit of fourth-placed Huddersfield Town on Saturday.

The 23-year-old Canadian, who has scored seven goals this season, missed last week's win over AFC Wimbledon with a hamstring strain.

But Argyle head coach Tom Cleverley says the forward will be fit to play some part for the League One leaders.

"We won't be reckless with Bim. We don't want to put him under extreme fatigue, but for sure 60 minutes is an option and then we'll see where he is on Sunday with how we approach Tuesday," Cleverley told BBC Radio Devon.

"You obviously need the player's buy-in and we've 100% got that. He's raring to go, he would have played last week had we let him.

"We don't want to put his body under extreme fatigue, which is in those dying stages, so don't be surprised if there is sort of a management, but 60, 70 minutes is for sure in the picture."

Argyle captain Joe Edwards will not be available after coming off after 30 minutes against the Dons, but should be fit for Tuesday's trip to Stevenage.

Meanwhile fellow defender Julio Pleguezuelo is fit after missing the last three games with a knee injury.

Tom Cleverley has led Plymouth Argyle to the summit of League One after 10 games

Plymouth Argyle head coach Tom Cleverley says Derek Adams' new role is "huge news" for the club.

Adams has become sporting director at Home Park, less than a year after re-joining the club as director of football.

Cleverley is in his second season in charge of the Pilgrims, having come in after the club was relegated from the Championship in 2025.

"We've worked really well since he's been at the club, successfully since he's been at the club," he told BBC Radio Devon of his relationship with former Argyle manager Adams.

"I think it's really important that he's sat where I am here.

"He understands what I go through, how lonely that can be at times, how panic and emotion is not the best solution and he knows all those things and I'm glad that he's staying at the football club for the short, medium and long term."

He added: "We're very organised and structured and routined people, which means that we understand how each other work and how that's structured and how we like to organise things.

"We have a lot of things in common, a lot of respect for one another and then we try to be as good at our respective jobs as we can and I feel like we give it a good go."

Plymouth Argyle defender Matthew Sorinola is set to make his 100th appearance in all competitions for the club.

The 25-year-old will reach his century if he plays in Saturday's game against AFC Wimbledon at Home Park.

The full-back moved to the Pilgrims as a free agent in January 2024 after leaving Belgian side Union Saint-Gilloise.

Signed by short-lived head coach Ian Foster, Sorinola has gone on to play under Wayne Rooney, Miron Muslic and current head coach Tom Cleverley and has become one of the longest-serving players in the current squad

"He's technically outstanding player, and a very good 1v1 defender, and a great guy," Cleverley said of Sorinola.

"He's very well liked by all the staff and all the players and it's a big achievement for playing 100 games at any club, which I'm sure he'll do at the weekend.

We've got Matty, Joe [Edwards], Wes [Harding], Alex Hartridge, Jack MacKenzie now, so it's a strong area of the pitch the full-back areas, and quite unusually I'm blessed with two who can play both sides with Wes and Matty which is quite rare.

"His technical ability, the 1v1 defending and, most importantly, a great member of the squad in terms of how he is as a person."

Plymouth Argyle boss Tom Cleverley is "thrilled" that defender Jack MacKenzie has returned to full fitness.

The left-back completed 90 minutes for just the second time in his injury-hit career at Home Park in Tuesday night's Jersey Mike's Trophy penalty shootout win at Newport County.

The 26-year-old played 12 times in all competitions last season due to tendonitis in his knee and shin splints, and missed the early part of this season with an abductor injury.

But his first full game since the 2-1 win over Doncaster Rovers on 7 March proved to Cleverley that the former Aberdeen player is ready to go.

"He's one that we can really trust - everything from an environment and a values perspective is what I stand for," he told BBC Radio Devon.

"He's all in, he's serious about his job, he's aggressive, competitive and I'm thrilled to have him back and available from the start of every game now."

Plymouth Argyle beat Newport County 5-4 on penalties after a 2-2 draw at Rodney Parade in the EFL Trophy.

Former Exiles loanee Tyreeq Bakinson equalised in the last minute to earn a share of the spoils for the Pilgrims, who then claimed an extra point by winning on spot-kicks.

Plymouth, who missed a penalty at 2-2, are top of Southern Group E and will claim home advantage for the round of 32 if they beat Swindon on Tuesday, 10 November.

Newport looked set for victory when they led 2-0 through Kieron Evans' deflected effort in the third minute and Yahya Bamba's penalty approaching the hour after Matt Smith was clipped by Tegan Finn.

But Plymouth fought back and Bim Pepple capitalised on a Lee Jenkins slip in the 74th minute to race through and finish past Shaun MacDonald.

Argyle's pressure finally told in the 90th minute when Xavier Amaechi's inviting cross was turned home by Bakinson.

The visitors could have avoided penalties and claimed all three points after Pepple was fouled in the box, but the striker saw his penalty saved by MacDonald.

Newport substitute Michael Adu-Poku was the only player to fail in the shootout with Bradley Ibrahim dispatching the decisive penalty.

The Exiles sit second in the group and are a point ahead of Crystal Palace Under-21s, who they host at Rodney Parade on Tuesday, 3 November.

  7. Ibrahim deserves chance to impress - Cleverleypublished at 06:29 BST 2 October

Bradley Ibrahim has started one League One game this season and been a substitute in Plymouth Argyle's remaining seven

Plymouth Argyle head coach Tom Cleverley says midfielder Bradley Ibrahim deserves a chance to start after his recent performances.

The 21-year-old has made just one league start this season and seen his chances limited since the arrival on loan of Tyreeq Bakinson.

Ibrahim missed a large chunk of last season with an ankle injury, having joined on a four-year deal for an undisclosed fee from Hertha Berlin in June 2025.

But with Bakinson unable to play against parent club Leyton Orient on Saturday Cleverley says Ibrahim could get his chance.

"He's been brilliant, he's had great impact in the games he's come on, he played well against Palace and his training levels have been really high," Cleverley said.

"People forget how young Bradley is. He's 21 years old and he's still learning, but the journey of the last 12 months where he's learnt a lot - both how to be a professional and how to be effective at the level.

"I see a lot of development in Bradley's game and we'll see more and more this season."
