I'd probably take the number 1, but I guess that's what I'm used to from years of watching F1. Kimi has carried #1 in F2 and it didn't go so well; that might colour my thinking too

Nice to see Antonelli following in Hamilton's footsteps by keeping his car number.

New world champion Kimi Antonelli will wear a new helmet design paying tribute to Ayrton Senna at Interlagos this weekend.

After winning the championship, the 20-year-old visited the property of the family of the late Senna on Tuesday.

"I won the championship, then spent time with the Senna family, which was already an incredible event. So definitely, I would have liked a bit more time to just sit down and like reflect and realise what happened," he said.

  6. Number one?published at 15:18 GMT

After winning the championship last time out in Mexico, Mercedes' Kimi Antonelli said he would keep the number 12, rather than selecting number one.

When a driver wins the championship, the number one is available for them to select for the next season - Lando Norris has done so after winning the 2025 championship and Max Verstappen during his reign.

"I'll stay with number 12 because, obviously, it's a very special number for me," Antonelli said.

"But also it's a way for me to stay grounded, to stay humble, and I feel like by keeping number 12 it allows me to have a new point where to start and build on everything again and try to improve."

So, we would like to know, what would you do? Keep your original number or take number one?

Mercedes' Kimi Antonelli spoke to the media after he was crowned world champion, and he was quick to get the picture of Max Verstappen and Lewis Hamilton lifting him up.

"I already framed the picture and definitely will put it on the wall because it's such a moment. Who would have said it? I wouldn't have expected to celebrate my title in that way. So definitely when they picked me up was the cherry on top of the cake.

"I will always be thankful towards them for doing that because, first of all, to receive that from two incredible drivers who have done the history of the sport is very special.

"And also even more special because it was real. It was something that they actually wanted to do.

"So it was a very special moment and definitely I hope I can see them again to thank them properly with a bit of calm because it was just very special."

It will feel like a sigh of relief for Kimi Antonelli as he heads into the Sao Paulo Grand Prix weekend, after becoming the latest world champion.

The 20-year-old has completed the championship with four races to go in Mexico with a third-place finish.

Antonelli's win is also a record breaker as he became the youngest ever winner in the sport at 20 years and 68 days.

He had an ideal podium celebration, sharing it with two legends, four-time champion Max Verstappen and seven-time champion Lewis Hamilton.

Although he has completed his F1 dream, in only his second season, there is still all to play for.

Mercedes still need to with the constructors' championship and will need Antonelli and team-mate George Russell to take the highest amount of points.
