Some of the crowd have been following Harry and Meghan as they tour the city.

Others heard about the couple's visit on the radio this morning, and decided to come to the Himmah food bank.

Sabjit Johal, 76, and Kulvir Johal, 71, have travelled to Hyson Green from Bramcote in Nottinghamshire.

"We're here to see Harry and Meghan," said Sabjit. "We were big fans of Lady Diana so it brings back memories.

"I like how they speak up for themselves, they're not scared of upsetting the Royal Family.

"Their support for Nottingham is great."

The duke and duchess have taken part in a cooking class at the Himmah Hub charity in Nottingham.

The duchess was also reunited with four women she previously worked with on a cookbook in 2018.

On seeing them ahead of the cooking class, Meghan said: "I want to meet all of you, it smells amazing but I have to go see my ladies first!"

    Megan especially was among friends.

After the formal introductions, she peeled away saying she had to get to the kitchen to meet "her ladies".

These were the women who'd worked with her on a cookbook eight years ago. The mood was family reunion.

They hugged, there was a lot of emotion in the room, they told her they missed her.

  6. Watch: A floral greeting for Meghanpublished at 13:15 BST 15 October

After arriving in Nottingham earlier today, Harry and Meghan went straight to greet the crowds of well-wishers - just like a traditional royal walkabout - smiling, shaking hands, giving hugs and taking selfies with the members of the public.

The duchess was heard telling one woman in the crowd "it's great to be back", and she left carrying multiple bouquets of flowers as she went inside the Community Recording Studio (CRS) building.

The couple are currently taking part in a cooking class inside Himmah, and it's a subject close to Meghan's heart.

The cookbook she worked on, Together: Our Community Cookbook, was published in 2018 - and from the proceeds, she made a £10,000 donation to the charity in 2021, which Harry then matched.

She said: "I really like the boys, Harry and William.

"I was outside Windsor Castle for Harry and Meghan's wedding, I also went down to see Catherine and William, I went to the Queen's funeral. I like to see them when I get the opportunity.

"I do support them, I think they're doing a lovely job. I don't understand the stick they get in the media.

It was very brief engagement with the crowd outside Himmah.

A crowd of about 50 people had gathered at the gates of the organisation to catch a glimpse of the couple.

Cheers went up, as did dozens of camera phones. The couple waved as they walked into the charity building.

There were shouts of "hello Harry, hello Meghan" as they arrived.

Back at the CRS, Meghan revealed her daughter Princess Lilibet has been enjoying gymnastics.

The duchess joined young girls for a confidence-building and bracelet-making workshop where they discussed what makes them feel most like themselves.

When one youngster said "I like it when I do gymnastics", Meghan replied: "Oh yeah. Our daughter is doing that too right now. She loves it."

The duchess, whose Netflix show With Love, Meghan centred around hosting and cooking, added: "I feel most like myself when I'm with my family and also when I'm cooking. I love doing that. I love to cook."

She also gave the girls advice, saying: "We have to remember to talk to ourselves like we talk to our best friends.

"It's really important to be just as kind to yourself."

She said: "I'm here because of Harry. I love him.

"I think it's because of what he's gone through. What the papers have done to destroy him."

Mary added the couple had "put Nottingham on the map".

"Good luck to them," she added.

West Bridgford resident Pauliina Paajanen, 35, is originally from Finland and desperately wanted to see "at least one royal".

She said: "We don't have royals in Finland and I want to see one."

Asked what she thought of the fact that they are not technically working royals, she said: "It doesn't matter to me. In Finland we're very focused on British royals.

"To me, I think they are. I'm not a fan but I'm very glad that they do this kind of work.

"I think the things they're working on are very important, maybe that's why it doesn't matter, because they're still doing good work."

The duke and duchess will shortly visit Himmah Hub, a Nottingham-based charity tackling food poverty.

They will also visit the charity's food bank and help prepare food parcels, which will be distributed to the local community.

The duchess has been involved with Himmah since 2018, after women affected by the Grenfell Tower fire came together to cook for their families and neighbours.
