    Essex 279 v Surrey 183 & 225-7

    Mark Church
    BBC Radio London commentator

What you're seeing here is how much Surrey missed Ben Foakes [when he was injured earlier in the season].

We all know his brilliance behind the stumps, but the bit I've never got my head around with England is he never really let England down with the bat.

He's showing here what he does, he just does it in a different way.

  2. wicket

WICKETpublished at 15:06 BST 30 August

    Pretorius c Simpson b Clark 2 (Sussex 250 v Somerset 202 & 343-8)

    Great catch by John Simpson!

Migael Pretorius takes a big swing at Tom Clark, doesn't connect cleanly and the ball balloons out in the direction of square leg, with Simpson racing out from behind the stumps to grab a diving catch.

Jack Leach is next in for Somerset, who lead by 295.

  3. Early tea at New Roadpublished at 15:05 BST 30 August

    Worcs 191-5 v Lancs 180

Early tea will be taken at Worcester, with a view to hopefully restarting play at 15:30 BST.

  4. Postpublished at 15:04 BST 30 August

    Essex 279 v Surrey 183 & 220-7

Simon Harmer is down on his haunches as another over passes by without a breakthrough for Essex.

The new ball is available after one more over, which will be bowled by Zaman Akhter.

  5. Postpublished at 15:03 BST 30 August

    Sussex 250 v Somerset 202 & 339-7

Somerset aren't too far off a lead of 300 now - could that be the point at which they pull out?

It's questionable whether Sussex would go all out to chase at around six and a half an over, anyway. We've got 48 overs scheduled for the rest of the match and two of those would be lost for change of innings.

Somerset captain Lewis Gregory, who's out there batting at the moment, will presumably know the answer!

  6. wicket

WICKETpublished at 15:01 BST 30 August

    Davies c Verreynne b Stone 3 (Warks 114-7 v Notts 325-8dec)

Another beauty from Olly Stone and the Bears are seven down.

Stone's first ball of his 11th over swings in and then straightens, taking Alex Davies' outside edge and wicketkeeper Kyle Verreynne does the rest.

Davies' poor run with the bat continues and Stone has 4-31.

Michael Booth is in to join Jordan Thompson.

  7. Postpublished at 15:00 BST 30 August

    Warks 114-6 v Notts 325-8dec

Jordan Thompson jabs his bat down just in time as Olly Stone fires down a yorker in his quest for a fourth wicket.

Thompson nicks a single to move to 21 and retain the strike for the 36th over.

He sees out Fraser Sheat's next over for a maiden in relative comfort.

    Essex 279 v Surrey 183 & 215-7

    Mark Church
    BBC Radio London commentator

People might be thinking Surrey would want it to hose down for 41 overs, but I don't think they would now.

If they can keep going for another 10 overs or until tea with the bat, they're right in this game.

    All results are there now.

  9. Postpublished at 14:56 BST 30 August

    Essex 279 v Surrey 183 & 215-7

Essex off-spinner Simon Harmer starts his 31st over of Surrey's second innings, but the hosts are being held at bay by a superb eighth-wicket stand of 71 between Ben Foakes and Tom Lawes.

Of course, every run they get now is one Essex will also need to get if and when they get a chance to bat again.

  10. wicket

WICKETpublished at 14:55 BST 30 August

    Rew c Carson b Clark 27 (Sussex 250 v Somerset 202 & 334-7)

It looks as if Somerset are heading towards a declaration - because, if they're not, that was a pretty poor shot by James Rew.

The left-hander flat-bats Tom Clark out to deep extra cover, where Jack Carson takes the catch. The way Rew and Lewis Gregory have stepped things up, though, suggests they are planning to set Sussex some kind of target.

Migael Pretorius is the new man in for Somerset.

Nathan McSweeney's slowed down during the last half hour or so, but he finally brings up his half-century - the sixth time the Australian has been past 50 in the County Championship this season.

Good work by McSweeney and Saif Zaib as Northamptonshire close in on another bonus point.

  12. Division Two updatepublished at 14:52 BST 30 August

76-3 at Derby and Matt Montgomery falls lbw to a wobbler from Toby Roland-Jones to depart for 38.

Middlesex need seven more of those in short order before tackling a chase in what would be their only innings of the match.

Derbyshire's lead is 207 with 54 overs remaining.

The rain has arrived at New Road where Worcestershire are 191-5, chasing batting points in their first innings. Looks to be a sharp shower but you never know...

  13. Postpublished at 14:52 BST 30 August

    Essex 279 v Surrey 183 & 209-7

Oh, a classy on-drive by Ben Foakes off the bowling of Shane Snater runs away for four and he's up to 74 not out off 162 balls.

Foakes is delivering when his team needs it.

    Surrey lead by 113 now.

  14. rain stops play

Rain stops play at Sophia Gardenspublished at 14:48 BST 30 August

    Glamorgan 21-3 (target 302) v Hampshire

Umpires Surendiran Shanmugam and James Middlebrook gets their light meters out, with conditions becoming increasingly gloomy in Cardiff.

They decide to take the players off for bad light, but they haven't left the field by the time the rain starts.

  15. Division Two updatepublished at 14:48 BST 30 August

George Balderson picks up his third wicket with a fine one handed catch in his follow through to dismiss Brett D'Oliveira for a breezy 45 at better than a run a ball.

Pears are motoring along now in search of batting points and are 189-5.

Lancs need one more wicket for a second bowling point.

Derbyshire are 72-2, leading Middlesex by 203 with more than 50 overs still remaining on the final day.

  16. dropped catch

Dropped catchpublished at 14:43 BST 30 August

    Warks 110-6 v Notts 325-8dec

Almost a fourth duck of the season for Alex Davies.

The wicketkeeper looks to steer Fraser Sheat down to third man but almost picks out Jack Haynes at third slip.

Davies gets off the mark with the scratchiest of singles.

Not sure if it carried, but Haynes' reaction suggests that it did.

  17. Postpublished at 14:42 BST 30 August

    Sussex 250 v Somerset 202 & 318-6

Classy stroke by James Rew brings him four off Joey Evison as Somerset look to steady the ship following the loss of those three wickets since lunch.

Rew has 25, while Lewis Gregory has just added a boundary of his own, sweeping Jack Carson and the lead is now 270 - which is starting to creep into a realm where it might be beyond Sussex's reach.

  18. Surrey's lead passes 100published at 14:41 BST 30 August

    Essex 279 v Surrey 183 & 197-7

Surrey push their lead to three figures and while there's still work to do, they are edging closer to securing an important draw at Chelmsford.

The sting just appears to have gone out of the Essex bowling attack right now.

  19. Postpublished at 14:37 BST 30 August

    Glamorgan 20-3 (target 302) v Hampshire

It is looking a little gloomy at Sophia Gardens, where England paceman Sonny Baker has been thrown the ball.

Oh, how Hampshire would love to snatch a final-day win here and boost their survival chances, with none of their rivals near the bottom on course for victories themselves.

  20. 6 runs

Postpublished at 14:37 BST 30 August

    Warks 108-6 v Notts 325-8dec

Jordan Thompson welcomes Olly Stone back to the attack with an almighty pull to the first ball which goes all the way for six.

A change at both ends as Ben Martindale is replaced by Fraser Sheat (0-23).
