    Warks 82-4 v Notts 325-8dec

Vansh Jani made four half-centuries in the latter stages of the One-Day Cup and added 62 with the red ball last week for the South Asian Cricket Academy graduate.

So, a bit of form after stepping up from the Second XI - and he's got a start here. Two singles from Ben Martindale's latest over takes Jani to 18.

    Abell b Hunt 37 (Sussex 250 v Somerset 202 & 268-4)

Sean Hunt has just taken the new ball for Sussex - and he makes a breakthrough straight away!

The left-armer gets the ball to jag back at Tom Abell and send the bails flying - and Sussex badly needed that wicket.

One or two more quickly and things could get interesting as James Rew comes in with the lead at 220.

  3. 'We weren't good enough - it's a bit of a theme'published at 14:01 BST 30 August

Durham beat Gloucestershire by 10 wickets

No mention of this morning's strange finale in the quotes supplied to us, but Gloucestershire captain Cameron Bancroft has reflected on their defeat by runaway Division Two leaders Durham.

"Obviously, (it was) another disappointing result for us," said the Australian. "I think we learnt this week what it takes to be a really good cricket team. That's exactly what Durham are.

"They have a lot of experience and international experience in their team. They were far too good for us over the four days.

"We weren't good enough and sadly it's been a little bit of a theme for us this year.

"But I think at the end of the game, it's a nice example of the hard work that's required to be able to get to a position they are in.

"To have three loan signings at one time also probably doesn't happen very often. I thought they fitted in really well.

"I think my kudos to our environment which I think is a very easy one to fit in. Hayesy (James Hayes) played with us during the T20 so he was quite familiar with our group.

"Mitch (Killeen) and JT (Langridge) also fitted in nicely. I thought they did a pretty good job this game."

  4. Postpublished at 13:58 BST 30 August

    Warks 78-4 v Notts 325-8dec

Not often a bye is worthy of comment, but that one seems mighty harsh on wicketkeeper Kyle Verreynne.

Dillon Pennington's delivery to Vansh Jani moved dramatically off the seam and had first slip stretching to the right to get a touch on it.

Quietish start after lunch which may settle any lingering nerves among the Bears faithful.

  5. wicket

    Thomas c Pepper b Akhter 33 (Essex 279 v Surrey 183 & 144-7)

    Big breakthrough!

Zaman Akhter bangs one in a bit shorter, Adam Thomas tries to pull but the ball finds the edge of the bat and goes through to wicketkeeper Michael Pepper.

  6. wicket

    Vasconcelos lbw b Ekansh Singh 119 (Northants 227-3 v Kent 345)

Only a tiny slice of the afternoon session was lost to that rain shower in the end - and in the first over after the restart, Ekansh Singh bags that first bowling bonus point for Kent.

It's Northamptonshire centurion Ricardo Vasconcelos who departs, trapped in front by a ball that nipped back at him and Saif Zaib replaces the opener in the middle.

Ben Foakes and Adam Thomas are playing a very important hand for Surrey at Chelmsford.

They've put on 51 so far for the seventh wicket and the visitors could do with them hanging around for a while longer yet, with Surrey's lead currently just 47.

  8. Postpublished at 13:47 BST 30 August

    Glamorgan 0-1 (target 302) v Hampshire

That's Kyle Abbott's 48th wicket in the County Championship this season - he's the leading wicket-taker in Division One in 2026.

The South African may be 39 years of age but his skills are still as sharp as ever.

    A wicket-maiden to start.

  9. rain stops play

Rain stops play at Northamptonpublished at 13:47 BST 30 August

    Northants 223-2 v Kent 345

Unfortunately, a spot of rain descended on Wantage Road during lunch and the square is covered.

Both teams will be keen to get back on as they try to squeeze another bonus point or two out of this game. Who knows, those could ultimately make all the difference in the race for promotion...

  10. Afternoon session begins at Hovepublished at 13:45 BST 30 August

    Sussex 250 v Somerset 202 & 255-3

Back under way at Hove, with Jaydev Unadkat sending down the first over of the afternoon session and dropping one short that Tom Abell pulls gratefully to the rope.

Abell will fancy his chances of a second half-century of this game as he moves on to 31, while partner Henry Nicholls has 45.

    Tribe lbw b Abbott 0 (Glamorgan 0-1 (target 302) v Hampshire)

    What a start!

Kyle Abbott takes a wicket with the third ball of the innings and Asa Tribe is gone for a duck.

A disappointing game with the bat for Tribe, who bags a pair and faced just five balls across his two innings in the match.

  12. Afternoon session begins at Edgbastonpublished at 13:44 BST 30 August

    Warks 68-4 v Notts 325-8dec

Dillon Pennington has four balls to complete his sixth over which was truncated by that Dan Mousley wicket before lunch.

Bears skipper Ed Barnard has joined Vansh Jani and is beaten second ball by some sharp lift outside off stump. Wicket-maiden.

Ben Martindale to continue from the Birmingham End.

Short and wide first up and Jani stretches out to carve it for four.

  13. Glamorgan begin run chasepublished at 13:43 BST 30 August

    Glamorgan 0-0 (target 302) v Hampshire

Hampshire declared before lunch so Glamorgan's openers are striding out to the middle to begin the home side's chase of 302 for victory at Sophia Gardens.

Mason Crane is partnering Asa Tribe at the top of the order... Zain-ul-Hassan has a slight injury.

  15. 'Uncomfortable hour for Warwickshire'published at 13:39 BST 30 August

    Warwickshire 64-4 v Notts 325-8 dec

    Mike Taylor
    BBC Radio WM commentator

"Are we actually in trouble?" asked a Warwickshire voice on the way back up from lunch just now.

There ought to be enough faith in the weather forecast, let alone the rest of the Warwickshire batting, to ensure that they aren't, but they were given an uncomfortable hour before lunch by the Nottinghamshire bowlers, swinging the ball at pace.

It is hard to remember Olly Stone being fit enough to bowl many seven-over spells at full bore in his years with Warwickshire, such was his dreadful luck with injuries at that time.

Any Warwickshire members who spent time talking to the likeable Stone during his Edgbaston career will surely be pleased to see him now in such good order, but less so that his fire was turned on his old club in his burst this morning.

He had Rob Yates doubting which balls to play and which to leave, and lbw after making the wrong decision once too often. Will Young touched a fast outswinger to the keeper, and Sam Hain was pinned by an inswinger - although his body language suggested it was swinging too much to have actually hit leg stump.

Stone had therefore earned a bonus point by himself, and Dillon Pennington made a start on the next one by hitting Dan Mousley's back pad in the last over before lunch.

Warwickshire will be doing well to add any more bonus points themselves in this game, having been denied one by Notts' declaration at the fall of Joe Clarke's wicket.

At the time, Fraser Sheat's breezy batting was hurrying Notts towards another point, but Haseeb Hameed's decision now appears justified.

  16. 'Essex have to be patient'published at 13:37 BST 30 August

    Essex 279 v Surrey 183 & 132-6

    Don Topley
    BBC Essex

Surrey, resuming at 51-4 and still 45 runs behind Essex, fought extremely hard to get to lunch at 132-6.

Josh Blake was the first to go having made a patient 14 runs off 70 balls. Blake watched the fortuitous Ben Foakes, his morning's partner, enjoy a badly missed stumping by the Essex wicketkeeper Michael Pepper and then a dropped caught and bowled by Simon Harmer - a rare collector's item.

The only other Surrey loss was that of Mahipal Lomror who, at 92-5, edged fine to Pepper who made amends for the missed stumping.

Essex have to remain patient as the surface is still offering help for both seamers and spinners, while Surrey will dream of asking the home side to make 150 in the fourth Innings.

Foakes has been there all morning for a defying 34 not out with some great leg side play. Surrey now lead Essex by 36 runs with just four second Innings wickets to come. Essex remain in an excellent position unless Foakes has a day to remember at his old county.

  17. 'Draw was inevitable'published at 13:36 BST 30 August

    Yorkshire 263 v Leics 84-0 - match drawn

Yorkshire head coach Anthony McGrath also spoke after the abandonment of the final day of the game against Leicestershire at Scarborough.

"The summer we've had, we were always going to get a game or two where the rain intervened. It just came down to the outfield and the run-ups today.

"It was pretty inevitable from day one, really. At the end there, we said we'd bowl spin from one end and try to get some kind of play in. But the umpires have to take everything into account, I guess, safety and all those kinds of things.

"To not even play one full day out of four is very frustrating. I think we've tried to get as much play as we can. It wasn't ideal yesterday when we bowled, but we wanted to get out there.

"I thought George Hill played brilliantly with Ben Cliff and Dom Bess at the end to get us up to 260. I guess on the bowling side we were disappointed in the time we had that we didn't get any wickets. We wanted at least one more bonus point. Credit to Leicester, they stuck in there.

"On reflection, nine points is probably the most we could have hoped for given we only played one full day's cricket.

"Going to The Oval, to Trent Bridge and then to play Essex and Somerset, they're four brilliant fixtures. There's lots to be excited about."

  18. Leicestershire earn 11 points, but is it enough?published at 13:34 BST 30 August

    Yorkshire 263 v Leicestershire 84-0 - match drawn

The overwhelming feeling, sat here in the commentary box at an empty North Marine Road, is one of sadness and disappointment.

This is such a wonderful cricket ground, and the two games here every year showcase the best of domestic cricket. It's a shame we didn't see more of it.

There are positives here for Leicestershire, they didn't lose, their bowling attack looked more balanced with Alex Green and Josh Davey - the former bringing a bit of stardust to their line up.

Rishi Patel and Sheridon Gumbs batted with discipline, but really we didn't see enough of either team to learn too much.

The Foxes, with the top three to play in their final four matches, would have targeted this game for victory. They haven't got it. It makes their game against Hampshire vital, and they may have to spring a shock to climb free of relegation.

Eleven points is fine... but perhaps not enough.

  19. 'We've kind of found our blueprint again'published at 13:31 BST 30 August

    Yorkshire 263 v Leics 84-0 - match drawn

Leicestershire head coach Alfonso Thomas says he hopes the Foxes are timing their push for Division One survival perfectly.

The rain-hit draw at Yorkshire lifted them out of the relegation zone, albeit potentially only temporarily, with Surrey below the dotted line as things stand while their game at Essex is ongoing.

You can view the table here.

"To take 11 points out of the game, with everything that's happened, we're one more down through to the end of the season," Thomas said after the draw at Scarborough.

"Bowling wise, I thought we bowled really well. We have a young bowling attack who have bowled a lot of overs. We left Ajaz Patel out having looked at the forecast, probably not going to need the left-arm spin. He's a model professional and could see where we were coming from.

"We know what Rishi Patel can do but I think the one who is really catching the eye is Sheridon Gumbs. We've seen him come through our seconds and put a lot of good performances in. It's his technique and temperament that we're really impressed with.

"He's just been a breath of fresh air coming into it, and I hate to say it, but I think we've found another diamond there. The one thing people haven't seen yet is he's got the positive game as well. Hopefully that's something we can develop over the winter.

"Our main aim was to try to consolidate our position in Division One. We've, at times - as I've said throughout the season - played some really good cricket but just not done it for long enough.

"I think the last couple of games - the Yorkshire game before the break, the game against Glamorgan last week and this game as well - we've kind of found our blueprint again and our DNA from last year. Hopefully we're timing it really well."

  20. Back in 15 minutespublished at 13:18 BST 30 August

Right, while the players in our seven remaining games take a short break, we'll do the same.

Back just after half-past with reaction from Scarborough and, hopefully, an exciting afternoon of cricket ahead.
