[Kimi Antonelli] has had this all bottled up for so long now. The last few races everyone has been talking about it and now he can let it go. The pressure release is ridiculous. The cheers to that and very much deserved, they love this guy, we all do. He is an incredible breath of fresh air in F1. What he has done this year has just been astonishing, there's been so many almost perfect performances.

The first thing you feel is "oh my god, thank god that is over".

  2. Alpine score double pointspublished at 22:36 GMT 1 November

While the party continues for our new world champion, this is how the rest of the top 10 finished.

Charles Leclerc held on by the skin of teeth to take fourth place, as Lando Norris couldn't find a way through and ended his day in fifth spot.

George Russell was sixth, Oscar Piastri finished seventh following that contact with Arvid Lindblad and Franco Colapinto, who started 11th, was eighth.

Liam Lawson, the pit-lane starter, was ninth, and the other Alpine of Pierre gasly took the final points place in 10th.

Kimi Antonelli is getting hugged left, right and centre by everyone in the paddock. His dad, his sister, team-mate George Russell, the Italian is the toast of the town.

Mercedes boss Toto Wolff rushes over and lifts the 20-year-old into the air. This is the perfect section of the track to crown a new world champion.

Lewis is just not giving Max a moment's peace, he is just on his tail the whole time. Kimi is just watching these two masters fight it out at the front.

  9. Norris challenging Leclercpublished at 22:24 GMT 1 November

    Lap 70/71

It's so close to overtake for Lando Norris! Time is running out for the world champion but Charles Leclerc is defending for his life in the Ferrari. He keeps hold of fourth place, Norris will probably have to settle for fifth.

  10. Postpublished at 22:22 GMT 1 November

    Lap 69/71

I think Kimi Antonelli will be happy to be on the podium with two multiple world champions to celebrate his maiden title victory.

Charles Leclerc is surviving on track right now. Lando Norris hasn't found the answer just yet, and he's only got a few laps to figure it out.

  11. Postpublished at 22:21 GMT 1 November

    Lap 68/71

Polesitter Lewis Hamilton in second continues to be the fastest car on the Mexican circuit, but he hasn't got enough boost in the Scuderia to mount a challenge for the lead.

Max Verstappen is sixth tenths clear of the seven-tine world champion, with Italian Kimi Antonelli in the final podium place in third.

  12. Postpublished at 22:19 GMT 1 November

    Lap 67/71

The long sprint to Turn One doesn't present Lando Norris with an opportunity to pass Charles Leclerc. Maybe try again at Turn Four? Denied. The Ferrari stays ahead in P4.

Max Verstappen is on his way to another victory this season, as Kimi Antonelli is inching closer to becoming the youngest title winner in Formula 1 history.

    Damon Hill

There is another looming dilemma for Kimi Antonelli. He is actually very close to Lewis Hamilton and I wonder if he is thinking, I can have him. Because if he does think that, he shouldn't and I'm sure his engineers would say no, no Kimi just don't get involved in this one.

    Lap 66/71

The laps are ticking down but Lando Norris hasn't solved the puzzle of how to pass Charles Leclerc. The Ferrari driver is doing everything he can to keep the McLaren at arm's length.

That incident between Arvid Lindblad and Oscar Piastri at the restart is going to be investigated by the stewards. The Racing Bulls driver is out of this race, while Australian Piastri is still in th points in seventh.

The Alpines of Pierre Gasly and Franco Colapinto are on to score points for the French team while Liam Lawson, who started in the pit lane, will collect points for fifth-placed Racing Bulls.

Max Verstappen leads from Lewis Hamilton, with Kimi Antonelli so close to his title party.

  18. Postpublished at 22:14 GMT 1 November

    Lap 63/71

If Charles Leclerc thought the latest restart we hand him a break, he was wrong. Lando Norris is all over the back of his Ferrari but yet again, he lives to fight another lap in fourth.

  19. Safety car endingpublished at 22:13 GMT 1 November

    Lap 62/71

Please, Mexico, no more drama - we need to go to bed.

Max Verstappen lets loose and sprints off at the restart. Lewis Hamilton is thinking about a move, but he doesn't have enough in the tank to make the lunge.

  20. Team radio - Piastri to McLarenpublished at 22:12 GMT 1 November

Piastri: "Is it a little bit of damage or a lot of damage?"

Mclaren: "It's a reasonable amount of damage, Oscar."
