    Haynes c Pope b Lawes 20 (Surrey v Notts 41-5)

Jack Haynes' counter attack ends as Ollie Pope holds on to a third catch at second slip.

This one is another great effort diving to his right to grab a ball which was travelling fast off the bat.

So five wickets for Surrey on a green pitch. A testing first-class debut then for Nottingham-born Ben Martindale and perhaps an opportunity to make a name for himself. He survives his first two balls.

After a marathon of T20 Blast, One-Day Cup and Hundred games across the last two months, it feels like we've got a sprint to the line in the Championship.

The season ends on 27 September - that is only 38 days away.

The upcoming schedule is pretty punishing on the bowlers as there are 16 scheduled days of Championship action in the next 23.

  3. Postpublished at 12:19 BST 20 August

    Middlesex v Kent 66-1

Zak Crawley pounces on the width afforded to him by Ryan Higgins and smacks an off-drive away to the cover boundary for four.

He's up to 29 now and Kent are building a solid platform, with fellow opener Ben Compton the only man to fall so far for the visitors.

It certainly does not seem to be a batter's paradise in the opening hour or so, Kevin.

    Goldsworthy c Pepper b Porter 16 (Somerset 94-2 v Essex)

Somerset lose their second wicket as Jamie Porter has Lewis Goldsworthy caught behind.

It's not a great shot from Goldsworthy, who had started to open up a bit with three boundaries after a slow start.

This time the new man is indeed the new man, Henry Nicholls.

    Ahmed c Carlson b Toole 3 (Leics 38-2 v Glamorgan)

One is followed by another for Glamorgan as Rehan Ahmed doesn't last long.

He tries to drive but can only steer the ball to third slip.

A first wicket for South African Ray Toole as a Glamorgan player.

WICKETpublished at 12:10 BST 20 August

    McCann c Fisher b Lawes 10 (Surrey v Notts 30-4)

Just as Notts appear to be building some sort of recovery, Freddie McCann carves a Tom Lawes delivery to backward point where Matt Fisher holds on to a high catch.

Notts could have been in further trouble in the next over but Lawes puts one down to give Jack Haynes a life on nine.

    Patel c.Tribe b ul-Hassan 19 (Leics 35-1 v Glamorgan)

It's taken an hour but Glamorgan have made a breakthrough against some cautious batting from Leicestershire.

Rishi Patel edges to slip where Asa Tribe does well to hold on to the catch despite second slip diving in front of him.

    Zain-ul-Hassan is the successful bowler.

In the 24 balls possible, Chris Woakes had Dan Hughes caught in the gully for 11.

Following an 11:50 BST inspection, play will get under way at 12:30 BST in the Division Two match between Derbyshire and Durham. Derbyshire have won the toss and will field first.

Former England captain Ben Stokes has been named in the Durham side, as has England pace bowler Brydon Carse, while Shaoib Bashir is in the Derbyshire XI.

  14. wicket

WICKETpublished at 12:04 BST 20 August

    Bracey c Hose b Allison 0 (Glos 28-4 v Worcs)

Worcestershire are all over Gloucestershire like a summer heat rash.

James Bracey lasts two balls and two wickets in three balls for Ben Allison.

It's the same combination that did for Miles Hammond as another left-hander edges to second slip.

Allison now has 3-5 in his seventh over.

Postpublished at 12:04 BST 20 August

    Surrey v Notts 25-3

    Where did that come from!

After digging in following the loss of three early wickets Jack Haynes wallops a short ball from Tom Lawes over the cover boundary.

Notts had previously hit just two fours off the first 13 overs.

  16. Postpublished at 12:03 BST 20 August

    Hampshire v Yorkshire 29-3

There can't be too many more difficult new-ball bowlers to face in English county cricket than Kyle Abbott when conditions gets a bit cloudy, as they are now in Southampton.

A lot of "oohs" and "aahs" from Abbott and his Hampshire team-mates as James Wharton makes what proves to be an excellent leave. Wasn't too far away from the off-stump.

A couple of balls later, Wharton leaves another and an lbw shout is turned down by the umpire.

Abbott has figures of 2-3 off seven overs, five of those overs being maidens.

  17. wicket

WICKETpublished at 12:00 BST 20 August

    Hammond c Hose b Allison 1 (Glos 28-3 v Worcs)

This is the wicket of a team in business!

Excellent ball round the wicket from Ben Allison to Miles Hammond and the batter is induced into playing where he edges to second slip.

It flies to Adam Hose but does not look like going down and Gloucestershire are in a spot of bother.

  18. wicket

WICKETpublished at 11:56 BST 20 August

    Phillips b Waite 0 (Glos 27-2 v Worcs)

Tight stuff from the Pears bowlers in this first hour and Matthew Waite needs only four balls to strike.

Joe Phillips is neither forward or back and the indecision is fatal as the ball passes bat and crashes into the timbers.

A hard innings of nine off 36 balls is brought to an end.

  19. dropped catch

Dropped catchpublished at 11:51 BST 20 August

    Surrey v Notts 16-3

Ryan Patel looks like he's done some damage to a finger after trying unsuccessfully to grasp a low chance at leg slip.

Dan Worrall is denied a second wicket despite putting a fielder in the right place.

Freddie McCann survives and scores two to end a run of four consecutive maidens.

Sadly Patel is off the field and looking in some agony.

    Hampshire v Yorkshire 22-3

    Kevan James

Earlier in the season, Yorkshire felt they didn't have an answer to Kyle Abbott, who picked up 10 wickets in the match.

Hampshire won the game comfortably in the end.

It looks as though they still haven't found an answer as the South African picked up two wickets inside the first 30 minutes.
