Some effort batting at number eight from Liam Patterson-White.

He's tried to take the attack back to the Surrey bowlers and although he's ridden his luck at times it's been an entertaining half-century hit off 70 balls and including nine fours.

  2. wicket

WICKETpublished at 16:47 BST 20 August

    Harrison c Bohannon b Walkden 1 (Lancashire v Northants 56-2)

A maiden first-class wicket in first-class cricket for Ben Walkden.

Calvin Harrison had collected only one single from 20 deliveries, so he decides to take on a delivery from Walkden with a bit of width offside.

Harrison would have collected four too, but for a brilliant leap and catch from stand-in captain Josh Bohannon at mid-off.

And there are hearty pats on the back for both Walkden and Bohannon.

Surely the extremely hot weather we have had this summer has created these unusually dry conditions.

  5. Postpublished at 16:43 BST 20 August

    Derbyshire v Durham 29-1

Alex Lees dashes for a quick single and makes his ground, with the throw from short cover just missing the stumps.

The floodlights are shining brightly in the gloomy Derby sky.

Somerset are still flowing nicely at Taunton.

The Essex decision to put the hosts in this morning now starting to look like a dropped clanger.

New Zealander Henry Nicholls is on 86 on his Somerset debut, with former skipper Tom Abell on 36.

  7. Tea in Southamptonpublished at 16:36 BST 20 August

    Hampshire v Yorkshire 167-9

Dom Bess and Ben Cliff will get a few pats on the back from their Yorkshire team-mates as they enter the dressing room at tea on the first day against Hampshire.

An unbroken 10th-wicket stand of 47 between the pair has helped Yorkshire to 167-9 at the interval.

They were 83-7 at one stage but their final three wickets have more than doubled that score and they might add even more useful runs to their tally after the break.

  8. 50 runs

50 up for Northantspublished at 16:30 BST 20 August

    Lancashire v Northants 53-1

Ben Walkden has the ball in his hand for the first time in first-class cricket.

His second delivery is a no-ball and the next one is flicked off Luke Procter's legs for four to bring up the Northants 50.

  9. Postpublished at 16:30 BST 20 August

    Hampshire v Yorkshire 161-9

Dom Bess is now Yorkshire's top scorer in the first innings - he's up to 38 with a little paddle round the corner off Kyle Abbott which goes for four.

He's put on 41 for the last wicket with Ben Cliff - very handy runs for the visitors.

  10. Tea at The Ovalpublished at 16:28 BST 20 August

    Surrey v Nottinghamshire 128-8

Surrey's bowlers remain on top but Nottinghamshire have offered some resistance in the afternoon session.

That's been led by Liam Patterson-White who's hit nine fours to reach 48, more than double the score any of his team mates have managed.

Surrey have, for the most part, bowled accurately and have looked threatening throughout. Tom Lawes has led the wicket taking with three but Dan Worrall and Matt Fisher may both feel unlucky not to have more than two each.

Ollie Pope has held three catches but Surrey have put down some difficult chances and one such miss has cost Ryan Patel his place in the game. He's been subbed by Josh Blake after injuring his hand.

  14. Not outpublished at 16:18 BST 20 August

Matt Fisher is convinced he's found the edge of Brett Hutton.

The bowler celebrates a catch behind without appealing but the batter is going nowhere and umpire Paul Pollard says not out.

  16. Postpublished at 16:15 BST 20 August

    Hampshire v Yorkshire 145-9

A frustrating period for Hampshire, who are being held at bay by Yorkshire's lower order.

Yorkshire were 9-3 and 83-7 but the last-wicket pair of Dom Bess and Ben Cliff are adding some useful runs to get their side close to 150.

Tea was due to have been taken by now, but the interval has been delayed with Hampshire requiring just one more wicket to end the innings.

  17. Postpublished at 16:15 BST 20 August

It is the brightest overhead conditions we have had all day in Manchester as the Northants openers make a positive start.

Luke Procter has now overtaken Ricardo Vasconcelos thanks to four fours off Tom Bailey.

He is now making way for Lancashire's One-Day Cup captain George Balderson.
