Here's Liverpool defender Ronald Araujo on whether he sees himself going back to Barcelona in the future:

"It’s very early to be talking about these kinds of things.

"I’m just trying to enjoy every day, continue to grow, develop, to play, to give what’s required of me, to have that confidence.

"I’m really happy to be here, my family are also very happy. But it’s a bit early to be talking about those kinds of things."

Liverpool boss Andoni Iraola described the "hunger" of Ronald Araujo to join the club on loan and how positive the initial part of his move from Barcelona has been.

Araujo has shown his adaptability to fill in at the problem right-back spot and also played in his preferred role of centre-back.

Liverpool boss Andoni Iraola on Florian Wirtz:

"I think he is coming from two very good games, he played really well LASK away and the other day [against Brentford] I think he helped the team a lot, in possession, out of possession and I hope we can keep him there.

"We analyse and scrutinise everything, but he has done well, it is fair to say."

Liverpool boss Andoni Iraola on Dominik Szoboszlai and Jeremie Frimpong injuries:

"I think they are different circumstances, Jeremie Frimpong has a new muscle injury. It happened, I think in the second or third minute he was playing.

"Difficult to predict. We will have to wait until he recovers but it is going to be difficult before the break, we will try but it is going to be difficult to have him.

"Dominik Szoboszlai is different, it is not a new injury. I think it is in the same place it was in the past week. It hasn't worsened, the injury. But probably we have to be a bit patient until he recovers fully but it is not like he has to wait a long time to come back it is more or less the same situation he was in this past week.

"We need more patience with him, but I appreciate what he did the other day, to be available, want to contribute in a very difficult game that you know is going to be very physical. One of the most physical teams Brentford. To put himself in front and want to play, speaks very well."

  8. Injury problems continue for Iraolapublished at 13:44 BST 19 October

Liverpool v Villarreal (Tue, 20:00 BST)

    Liverpool

The build-up to last week's Champions League win at LASK was dominated by injuries to key trio Dominik Szoboszlai, Cody Gakpo and Alexander Isak.

All three missed that Champions League tie but were back in the squad for the weekend win over Brentford in the Premier League.

Both Isak and Szoboszlai started against the Bees, while Gakpo was an unused substitute after returning from an adductor problem.

Top scorer Isak went on to bag the winner, but the decision to start Szoboszlai did not pay off after the Hungary captain was withdrawn in the first half with a recurrence of his thigh injury.

And the hamstring injury suffered by Jeremie Frimpong raised further concern for Iraola at right-back.

Here's a full list of Liverpool injuries:

    • Hugo Ekitike - Achilles tendon rupture
    • Giovanni Leoni - ACL
    • Conor Bradley - Knee
    • Dominik Szoboszlai - Thigh
    • Jeremie Frimpong - Hamstring
    • Cody Gakpo? - Adductor

Liverpool are set to kick off a run of four consecutive matches at home with the visit of Villarreal on Tuesday and Andoni Iraola will be keen to put on a show for fans after some lacklustre results and performances at Anfield this season.

The Reds have won both their cup matches at Anfield - against Atletico Madrid in the Champions League and Tottenham in the League Cup.

But Iraola's side are yet to win a league game at home after three attempts.

Their recent 3-0 loss to Manchester City at Anfield remains their only defeat in 10 matches in all competitions this season, but it followed below-par home performances in league draws with Fulham (0-0) and Nottingham Forest (2-2).

Despite their suspect home form, Liverpool leapfrogged Brentford with Saturday's Premier League win in West London to move up to fifth place in the table.

Two huge home games now await in the league - against third-placed Brighton and defending champions Arsenal - while the Reds also face Xabi Alonso's Chelsea for a place in the League Cup quarter-finals.

Results at Anfield over the coming weeks will have a significant impact on how supporters will view Iraola's start to his tenure as manager.

Liverpool's run of consecutive home games:

    • Villarreal (Champions League) - 20 October
    • Brighton (Premier League) - 25 October
    • Chelsea (EFL Cup last 16) - 28 October
    • Arsenal (Premier League) - 1 November

We are moving on to Liverpool now, with manager Andoni Iraola and on-loan defender Ronald Araujo talking to the media before Tuesday's Champions League tie at home to Villarreal.

Araujo is up first, he says from what he has seen of the Reds team he believes they can challenge for titles.

The Barcelona player also says it is "a bit early" to be talking about potentially turning his loan move into a permanent deal.

A round-up of Araujo's key quotes will follow.

It's always funny when we have our team feed Haaland (because he's the best striker in the world) and people say he's "bailing us out". Yeah I'd hope so, we give him the ball more than anyone else. Our #10 [Rayan Cherki, on four] has one less league goal than Isak, we'll be fine.

    Interesting angle Freddie.

It is true that Erling Haaland has scored eight of Manchester City's 12 Premier League goals so far this season.

But the only metric that Enzo Maresca will point to at this stage is his side's points tally.

Top six of the Premier League - Man City 21pts, Arsenal 18pts, Brighton 16pts, Chelsea 13pts, Liverpool 12pts, Brentford 10pts

Underlying metrics show that City should be 3rd in the league. Can't expect Haaland to bail you out every game. Same as last season, he started strong then faded after Christmas. When his form goes so does City's title hopes, the definition of a One Man Team.

Manchester City's Marc Guéhi on his side's defensive record: "I wouldn't say us leading at the back is a concern, we are getting used to playing together, a new manager and getting used to playing the way the manager wants us too. Hopefully, as time goes by, we learn and improve and concede less goals."

  17. 'More can always be done'published at 13:12 BST 19 October

Man City v AEK Athens (Tue, 20:00 BST)

    Manchester City

Marc Guehi was also asked about not taking the knee in Manchester City's most recent game, which was played during the Premier League's No Room For Racism weekend, and whether the campaign has lost its meaning: "Maybe it has, I haven't been taking the knee for a while now, I would always clap, just because of what that actually signifies...

"I feel like, the campaign is still there and the messages are still there, which is great, however more could be done. More can always be done.

"We will just have to see how we can move the campaign along, I don't think this is necessarily a football issue, it is a wider social issue and football is the beacon of hope to get the message out.

"Hopefully with the PFA and the league more can be done."

  18. 'We trust the football club' - Guehi on Man City's guilty verdictpublished at 13:05 BST 19 October

Man City v AEK Athens (Tue, 20:00 BST)

    Manchester City

Manchester City's Marc Guéhi has been speaking about how he's reacted to the club being found guilty of breaking the Premier League's financial rules: "The team spirit has been really good, every single person, player, staff and fans are backing us and it has been great to see.

"We're pretty calm. There's a lot of relaxed faces because we have a lot of trust and belief in the football club and what's been going going on here."

You sound like you're proud of the reaction of the team - is that fair?

"Yes, it can be very easy to be affected by the noise that's going on. But I'm so happy to see the team spirit, the team bonding and everyone taking to what's happening and just focusing on the football."

How have you come to trust the club? Why do you think this is going to be OK?

"Ever since I've got to the club, the club have been fantastic with me. The support that I've had, tough times on the pitch and off the pitch.

"I'm aware already of the success the club has already had in the past and I want to be someone who's part of the future success."

Do they give you any details about how things are going to progress?

"No, nothing's been said. The only thing that's been said is to focus on the football, which is all we can do."

Reminder: Manchester City have been found guilty of all charges related to breaches of Premier League financial rules between the 2009-10 and 2017-18 seasons. The club continue to deny any wrongdoing and have submitted an appeal.

  19. ICYMI: Do Man City have any grounds to win their appeal?published at 13:01 BST 19 October

Man City v AEK Athens (Tue, 20:00 BST)

Of course, Enzo Maresca has taken over at Manchester City during an unprecedented time of upheaval at the club off the pitch.

Saturday's win at home to Ipswich was another game that was played where no-one knows what sanctions City will face after being found guilty of breaking the Premier League financial rules.

And while there is doubt over what the final outcome will be, it's hard to know exactly what each individual result means.

But do they have any grounds to win their appeal?

Our Football Issues correspondent, Dale Johnson, has written about their chances.

They face "substantial hurdles" if they are to have any chance of winning their appeal, a leading lawyer has told BBC Sport.

The club have said they are "innocent of the accusations made by the Premier League" and they have "irrefutable evidence" the ruling "contains clear material errors, of law, principle and fact, and is unsafe".

James Severn, Member of the London Solicitor Litigation Association (LSLA) and Partner at Penningtons Manches Cooper, told BBC Sport that they will "face an uphill struggle to demonstrate the finding was materially wrong."

He’s done an extremely difficult thing - taken Pep’s foundation and style and built on it. The team plays much more directly and faster in transition while still having a core of possession based football.
