Despite the relatively positive news on Erling Haaland, it was not so good for Antoine Semenyo.

Manchester City boss Enzo Maresca says he could be out for "eight weeks" with a leg impact injury.

Semenyo has had a scan which Maresca said was "not as bad as we expected".

Only three other managers had won their first six Premier League matches in charge of a club, before Enzo Maresca joined them this season:

    • Carlo Ancelotti - with Chelsea in 2009-10
    • Pep Guardiola - with Manchester City in 2016-17
    • Ole Gunnar Solskjaer - with Manchester United in 2018-19 (from 22 December)

Enzo Maresca is now the first manager to win their first seven games at a new club.

Taking over from Pep Guardiola - 20 trophies during 10 seasons in charge - was always going to be a big challenge for Enzo Maresca.

Seven matches in, City's Premier League record remains flawless.

No points dropped, seven wins out of seven despite falling behind against Bournemouth and playing for more than an hour with 10 men at Manchester United.

"For sure I didn't expect to win seven out of seven," said Maresca. "We are working well and working good.

"I'm very happy especially with the situation in general.

"Today we controlled the game for 95 minutes. We created chances, we scored.

"We finished with a little bit of suffering together but overall, it is good."

Despite the off-field turmoil, this is City's best start to a league season in 129 years.

Only Chelsea in 2005-06 (first nine) and Liverpool in 2019-20 (first eight) have ever won the first seven matches of a Premier League campaign.

Both went on to win the title.

"First of all, I am very happy because it's a matter of winning games in this business," said Maresca after Saturday's 3-2 win at home to Ipswich Town.

"We were able to win seven in a row and what made me very happy was day by day with the players, the way they are working and how I can see them improving."

On his players dealing with the events surrounding the club off the field, Maresca said: "They are not worried about people who judge from outside because they know people are trying to judge them."

Maresca's start has been fantastic. Could barely have been better. Even against PSG we were great in the second half. His substitutions have been very effective, which is really promising. I was dubious about him at first - I'm far less dubious now.

The injuries did not wipe the smile off Enzo Maresca's face on Saturday.

And the new Manchester City manager has plenty to smile about when considering his side's start to the season - on the field, at least.

City have won nine of 11 matches in all competitions, with their only defeats coming in the Community Shield against Arsenal and at home to holders Paris St-Germain in their last Champions League match.

Their seven consecutive wins in the Premier League is a new record for a club with a new manager.

  9. What Maresca said about Man City injuriespublished at 11:52 BST 19 October

Man City v AEK Athens (Tue, 20:00 BST)

    Manchester City

Manchester City manager Enzo Maresca was positive in his post-match comments about the injuries picked up by Mateo Kovacic, Matheus Nunes and Erling Haaland in Saturday's Premier League win at home to Ipswich Town.

"I asked all of them," he said. "Mateo said he was OK. Matheus said he was OK and Erling said he was also OK."

The Italian added that he hoped Haaland's injury was "nothing serious" but was more circumspect about the prospect of Antoine Semenyo being available to face AEK Athens after the Ghana winger was left hobbling with what looked like a knee injury.

"The only one we need to wait on was Antoine, and we will see," added Maresca.

City could also be without Nico O'Reilly for Tuesday's Champions League tie after the England international was subbed off in the second half against Ipswich.

"It’s still his back. If you remember, against Coventry in the warm-up, it’s the same problem," said the City boss.

Manchester City have been flawless in the Premier League but need to get back to winning ways in the Champions League after suffering a home defeat by Paris St-Germain last time out.

Enzo Maresca's side head into Tuesday's game against AEK Athens with some players nursing injury niggles following the weekend victory over Ipswich.

Star man Erling Haaland sustained a blow to the foot, while Antoine Semenyo, Mateo Kovacic and Matheus Nunes also suffered knocks against the Tractor Boys.

Will they manage to shake off those issues before the Athens encounter?

Enzo Maresca says he and his players can only focus on matters on the pitch while Manchester City appeal against a verdict that found them guilty of 114 charges related to Premier League financial rule breaches between 2009 and 2018.

They are continuing to show that focus commendably.

It is the first time in 129 years that City have won their first seven games at the start of a league campaign.

They were in the second tier when they last achieved that - in 1897-98.

It is a remarkable achievement in its context, in the midst of an unprecedented period that has left the club's fate unknown.

Beyond the victory, there were a number of positives for Maresca as his seamless succession of club-great Pep Guardiola continued, including Foden's first league goal since December and the composed midfield performance of teenager Ayyoub Bouaddi.

However, it may have come at significant cost. After Mateo Kovacic and Matheus Nunes were both forced off with injury, Erling Haaland and substitute Antoine Semenyo both looked to be hobbling towards the end of the match.

Forced to continue playing after City used all their changes, Haaland, who is up to eight league goals this season, headed straight down the tunnel after picking up his knock.

First up we are going to focus on Manchester City.

Another two goals from Erling Haaland - the Norway striker's 11th and 12th of the season - proved key in their 3-2 win over Ipswich.

But concerns were raised as he grabbed his left ankle in pain late in the game and seemed to be hobbling...

Despite those injury scares - which we will get to shortly - both Manchester City and Liverpool enjoyed a positive weekend in the Premier League.

Welcome to today's live football news page as we gear up to another round of Champions League action.

We have two news conferences to bring you today, with Manchester City's Enzo Maresca first up at midday and Liverpool's Andoni Iraola from 13:30 BST.

Both managers are sure to be pressed on team news.

City's Mateo Kovacic, Matheus Nunes, Antoine Semenyo, Nico O'Reilly and Erling Haaland all seemingly picked up injuries in Saturday's win over Ipswich.

Dominik Szoboszlai's return from injury for Liverpool against Brentford lasted just 32 minutes, while right-back Jeremie Frimpong managed just six minutes after coming on as a second-half substitute and Cody Gakpo was not risked despite being fit enough for the bench.

The goalscoring return from injury of Alexander Isak against the Bees did at least provide a silver lining for Iraola.

Stick with us to find out the latest updates on these injuries.
