A final word from Manchester City boss Enzo Maresca on whether there is a difference in their form at home and away: "I like to analyse game by game, I think they are all different. I said many times that there are things that we need to improve, probably because at home with Coventry, Ipswich, Sunderland, they are all kind of teams that try to make the game for you difficult in terms of transitions and set pieces and it is something that we need to improve.

"If you analyse the last game against Ipswich, how many chances did we concede? Not many, how many goals? [Other than] the penalty and the goal - I don't remember any clear chances.

"At least you are going to think that you are going to concede something because there is another team that is looking for a chance."

Enzo Maresca on whether he sees a difference in fitness of players that did and didn't go to the World Cup in the summer: "Yes, depends a little bit on the player for sure. You need to pay attention because you probably need to give them some more rest if you want to keep them fit as long as you can."

  3. 'Antoine was one of the players we preferred to give rest'published at 12:55 BST 19 October

More from Enzo Maresca on whether he needs to be careful managing players: "We need to pay attention [to workloads] and this is why we did some changes against Ipswich, that's why we need to do some changes tomorrow.

"Try to manage all the players in the best way, try to keep them fit. There are things that you can't control, like Antoine's injury, we tried to save him, we tried to keep him fresh, just give him some minutes, he didn't play a lot but sometimes things happen, we cannot control.

"I think we did five or six changes from PSG to Ipswich, but again, Antoine was one of the players we preferred to give rest and then he played and got injured. Sometimes you are not able to control everything."

Manchester City boss Enzo Maresca on losing Antoine Semenyo to injury and whether that has changed his thoughts on giving players more rest: "No, because from the five problems that we had, I think Nico [O'Reilly] started, Mateo [Kovacic] started, Matheus [Nunes] started, then Erling [Haaland] was playing from the start.

"Antoine was the only one [injured] so sometimes things happen and you need to just try to find solutions for the next time.

"You try to control everything but sometimes it is so complicated because things happen that is so difficult so we can try to do our best and think how we can keep the players fit and in a good mood, but sometimes things happen that we cannot control."

Man City v AEK Athens (Tue, 20:00 BST)

    Manchester City

Manchester City boss Enzo Maresca on last week's defeat to Paris St-Germain leaving less room for error in the remaining league phase games in the Champions League:

"I don't think one game is going to change our plan or our idea in terms of what we want to do.

"The target is always to try and win games. For sure, after the defeat against PSG, we need to win games and that is why I said that tomorrow is an important game."

  7. Response after PSG defeat 'quite good'published at 12:41 BST 19 October

Man City v AEK Athens (Tue, 20:00 BST)

    Manchester City

Enzo Maresca on Manchester City's response on losing to Paris St-Germain in their last Champions League match:

"The same response that we had in the last game against Ipswich. The game is gone, it's a new game, new plan, a new team we need to face, so we need a different solution.

"I think the response after the PSG game was quite good."

Maresca is on his "Slot" year and has been bailed out by Haaland twice already against newly promoted sides as well as facing an awful United and a Liverpool down to 10 men also missing key players. Let's not hail him as the new messiah just yet.

More from Manchester City manager Enzo Maresca on Greek football culture:

"It is a Champions League game, different competition but the ambition has to be the same, try to win games and again, I had one year experience there [in Greece]. As I said a few conferences ago, it [managing in Greece] is nice because it is very warm, every game, at home, away, but it was a good experience."

  10. Foden 'can be one of the solutions'published at 12:34 BST 19 October

Manchester City boss Enzo Maresca on the number 9 spot and whether Phil Foden can be in that position: " Yeah, Phil can be one of the solutions, not the only one.

"As you said, he already played in the past in that position so he can play now again.

"But now, at the moment the number nine is Erling."

Manchester City's Marc Guehi believes that 'taking a knee' could have lost its impact as a stance against racism.

He says he has not taken the knee for a while and has instead chosen to clap, but he hopes that something more can still be done to continue to raise awareness about the issue - in football and society as a whole.

Terrible decision to bring Semenyo on as sub at the weekend. He should never have been in the squad if he wasnt't fit/needed a rest. This is why Maresca is not a top manager

  14. Losing Semenyo 'is not good'published at 12:27 BST 19 October

    Manchester City

However, Manchester City boss Enzo Maresca accepted that losing Antoine Semenyo for eight weeks "is not good", as he would have been used to help fill in for Erling Haaland, should the Norway striker miss games:

"First of all to lose Antonine or any player for us, it is not good.

"Then in terms of Erling [Haaland], we said that we can use Antoine as a nine but also we have different players that we are going to try and find new solutions.

"We will see, again. At the moment it is Erling, why do we need to think about a different nine when Erling is there?

"Then, if something happens and we need a different plan or a different nine, we will see."

  15. Semenyo out, Doku in?published at 12:25 BST 19 October

Man City v AEK Athens (Tue, 20:00 BST)

    Manchester City

It's a significant injury blow for Manchester City, even if Enzo Maresca is upbeat about the prognosis.

Eight weeks without Semenyo would likely see the Ghanian return just before the busy festive period in December.

He's had an impact this season too. Two goals, three assists and - up until Saturday - had been a regular starter under the new manager.

But in Jeremy Doku, they have an ideal replacement. It was Doku who assisted Phil Foden's goal against Ipswich.

It's just whether more injuries start to hit that City squad and what impact it will have.

More from Manchester City boss Enzo Maresca on Antoine Semenyo's injury: "In the first moment we expected an even worse injury, so we were more worried, but after yesterday's scan we feel much better because it is not so big like we expected.

"It could be eight weeks. So now in the moment, the most important thing for him is to recover and also when he is back, probably around December, we will have a new player in terms of energy.

"It is a collateral [lower leg injury], something like this. It is not muscle, not a muscle problem."

  17. Semenyo 'out for eight weeks' - rest 'more or less OK'published at 12:21 BST 19 October

    Manchester City

Manchester City boss Enzo Maresca on team news, with positive updates on the fitness of Mateo Kovacic, Matheus Nunes, Erling Haaland and Nico O'Reilly, but news of a lengthy absence out for Antoine Semenyo:

"The rest are more or less all OK. The only one that will be out for probably eight weeks is Antoine [Semenyo]."

Manchester City boss Enzo Maresca on finding a creative solution to replace Erling Haaland, if needed: "For sure, to replace Erling it is always difficult but we have some different options, we will see tomorrow. It also depends on the game plan. There is also the chance that he can be available tomorrow. We'll see."

  19. 'Try to win the game with best players'published at 12:15 BST 19 October

Man City v AEK Athens (Tue, 20:00 BST)

    Manchester City

Enzo Maresca on whether he would be willing to risk players against AEK Athens: "It is a huge game, tomorrow for us. It is a Champions League game, unfortunately we lost the last one, we need to win games and we are going to try to win the game with our best players in this moment."

More from Manchester City boss Enzo Maresca on Antoine Semenyo's injury.

He said that he tried to give the winger rest at the weekend and it was unfortunate that he should sustain an impact injury after coming on as a substitute.

"Sometimes things happen out of your control," he added.
