    Sussex v Somerset 38-1

Josh Thomas plays the stroke of the morning so far as he leans into a lusty cover drive to put Henry Crocombe to the cover fence.

But then a huge slice of luck as a thick inside edge whistles past leg stump to the long leg boundary.

Runs flowing for Somerset as Archie Vaughan takes overpitched balls from Sean Hunt through cover with a pleasant forward press.

    Durham v Glos 29-3

James Bracey and Ollie Price have steadied the Gloucestershire ship a little, but here comes Ben Stokes, who will bowl the 11th over of the day, replacing Matty Potts.

His first ball is very loose, but the second is bang on the money.

Re Chris in Hampshire (11:13). All the top 3 are playing Leicestershire and two are playing Hampshire so they can all look at their remaining games as winnable I think the title could come down to the team that’s prepared to gamble and make it pay off

    Yorks 19-2 v Leics

Another probing over from Josh Davey who so nearly finds the outside edge as Sam Whiteman fences at one that moves away from the left-hander.

Just the one scoring shot from 23 balls for Whiteman. It's hard work for the batters out there at the moment.

  5. Northants make the most of delaypublished at 11:43 BST 27 August

    Northants v Kent

    Andrew Radd
    BBC Radio Northampton

The rain continues to fall at Wantage Road - but a special ceremony in the Northamptonshire dressing room has seen Nathan McSweeney and Yuzi Chahal receive their county caps, from former captain Roy Virgin and current skipper Luke Procter respectively.

McSweeney - who has scored 1,434 runs for the club across all formats this season - becomes the eighth Australian to achieve the honour, following in the footsteps of all-time greats including George Tribe, Matthew Hayden and Mike Hussey.

And only two Indian cricketers have been awarded their Northamptonshire caps before Chahal - fellow spinners Bishan Bedi and Anil Kumble.

Josh Davey dismissed Adam Lyth with his second bal

There is something rather unusual about this Scarborough pitch.

Ian Holland, from the Trafalgar Road End, is huffing and puffing a tad. Sam Whiteman able to leave on length quite comfortable outside off stump.

I am reliably told you need to bowl a few feet fuller from that side of the ground, or it will be hard work.

At the other end, the Peasholm Park End, however, Josh Davey can do no wrong. The former Somerset man, brought in to the team on a seamer-friendly pitch, has got the ball to zip all over the place and looks threatening with every ball.

It's as if there are two different pitches here - anything Davey seems to bowl looks like magic.

He's dismissed Adam Lyth and Will Luxton cheaply, with The Foxes cockahoop. Yorkshire need a rebuild.

  7. Postpublished at 11:39 BST 27 August

    Yorks 18-2 v Leics

James Wharton turns Ian Holland through square leg and it races away to the rope for his first boundary.

The right-hander is up on his toes and pushes into the onside for a single to move into double figures.

  8. Back on at Cardiffpublished at 11:36 BST 27 August

    Glam v Hants 9-1

You suspect there is going to be a bit of on and off about this game at Sophia Gardens as it does not look noticeably brighter now.

Mir Hamza is on and raps Ali Orr on the pad and appeals but it is not given. Perhaps saved by impact marginally outside off stump

Must be something about playing with your mates. Carse 2 wickets in 3 overs. Stokes 2x 50 & 5wkts last time out

    Martin, Darlington

Hey, and if they were with England they'd be sat in the dressing room looking at a soggy outfield right about now...

  10. Postpublished at 11:32 BST 27 August

    Yorks 12-2 v Leics

Sam Whiteman gets forward to Ian Holland and the ball squirts off the inside edge into the legside.

The Yorkshire batter gets off the mark with a slightly streaky two.

Holland then gets a full ball to jag back sharply off the seam which flies just over the stumps as a relieved Whiteman leaves.

    Hammond b Carse 1 (Durham v Glos 13-3)

    There you go Brydon.

That will make the big man feel a little better about the world as he gets one to nip back at Miles Hammond and gets an inside edge on to his off stump.

What a start for the Division Two leaders. Three down six overs in to the morning and it is looking a good toss to have won.

Has lunch ever been called earlier than 25 minutes after scheduled start? I doubt it.

It's the caterers I feel sorry for, Jack. Imagine the panic.

  13. Postpublished at 11:29 BST 27 August

    Sussex v Somerset 18-1

It’s been okay for Somerset since that early loss of Tom Lammonby.

Archie Vaughan given a hint of room outside off stump by Sean Hung leans into a smart drive through cover point for four.

And then Josh Thomas is really attractively up on his toes to ease Jaydev Unadkat backward of point for his second boundary.

Unadkat then whipped out of the attack after just three overs that have gone for 12.

  14. Postpublished at 11:25 BST 27 August

    Yorks 8-2 v Leics

James Wharton gets off the mark with a couple, but survives a scare as Josh Davey continues to threaten.

Tidy stuff at the other end from Ian Holland as Sam Whiteman, still waiting for his first run after 10 balls, plays out a maiden.

  15. Early lunch taken at Chelmsfordpublished at 11:25 BST 27 August

    Essex v Surrey

The rain means we will not see any cricket on the opening morning at Chelmsford.

Fingers crossed for better luck this afternoon.

Shambles here at Cardiff. It’s dull and overcast the lights are on they play 3 overs and then go off for bad light. Nothing changed in those 3 overs

    Bancroft c Bedingham b Potts (Durham v Glos 12-2)

And an early wicket for Matty Potts too.

Big wicket of the captain Cameron Bancroft who drives much too loosely outside off stump and edges to first slip.

  18. Bad light stops playpublished at 11:17 BST 27 August

    Glam v Hants 9-1

Well that was short and sweet. They are off for bad light at Sophia Gardens.

Two balls after Timm van Der Gugten removes Nick Gubbins umpires decide conditions have worsened.

Gubbins will almost certainly be the most cheesed off person in the ground right now.

    Phillips b Carse (Durham v Glos 12-1)

Haha of course it’s Brydon Carse with an early wicket for Durham!

You just can't keep him out of the headlines.

They’ve chosen to bowl in friendly conditions and Carse gets one to nip back sharply and take out Joe Phillips’ middle stump.

Looks like plenty of grass left on this wicket.

    Luxton b Davey 2 (Yorks 6-2 v Leics)

Seven balls from Josh Davey this morning and two wickets!

Will Luxton looks to drive at a straight ball and will wish he hadd that shot again. An inside edge sends the middle stump flying out of the ground.

Both Yorkshire openers back in the hutch inside the fourth over.

    James Wharton joins Sam Whiteman.
