    Essex v Surrey 5-0

Confirmation that Ollie Pope is going to replace debutant Nikhil Gorantia when he gets here while Sam Cook will replace Charlie Bennett when he arrives.

A reminder that Matthew Fisher who was clearly not going to figure at Lord's at all, is already in the starting XI.

  2. Then there were four...published at 13:33 BST 27 August

    4 games yet to start

They are having lunch at the usual time at Worcester and Edgbaston, which suggests play may be some time away yet.

Lunch has been and gone at Derby where the rain persists but there is an inspection due at Northampton in the next 15 minutes which may give an idea of when play might be possible in the big promotion clash with Kent.

  3. Under way at Chelmsfordpublished at 13:30 BST 27 August

    Essex v Surrey 0-0

Essex have won the toss and elected to bowl and they are up and running.

Minimum of 75 overs to go with 20 lost to the rain this morning and Jamie Porter has Rory Burns and Dom Sibley in his sights.

  4. 'Could have been worse'published at 13:17 BST 27 August

    Sussex v Somerset 93-4

    Anthony Gibson
    BBC Radio Somerset

Sussex have made the most of what was always a good toss to win, on a pitch spiced up by overnight rain and with swing under steadily increasing cloud cover.

Lammonby and Vaughan were architects of their own destruction, both caught at long leg by Undakat from unwisely lofted pull shots, while Thomas and Nicholls fell in the same over to pace and movement from Crocombe, the pick of the Sussex bowlers.

The consolation for Somerset is that their two most prolific batsmen, Abell and Rew, are still there at lunch, the verdict amongst their supporters probably being "could have been worse".

  5. Five released from Englandpublished at 13:16 BST 27 August

    #bbccricket

The five players not selected in the XI at Lord's have been released to play for their counties and while confirmation they are all in their respective XIs is not there yet, they may well be.

Sonny Baker (Hants) is on his way to join up with Hants effort against Glam and is expected to replace Scott Currie in the XI.

Sam Cook (Essex) is not in the XI for Essex at Chelmsford at least not the one handed over at the toss. Ollie Pope (Surrey) had not been added to the Surrey XI but Matt Fisher (Surrey) is in.

It is raining at Derby where they haven't handed in teamsheets but Shoaib Bashir (Derbys) is free to play if needed.

Anyone else been looking at Surrey’s form and performances and thinking they need to be more worried about relegation than titles? Shocking season - bat and ball (a Surrey supporter)

    Ben, Bristol

I suspect a lot of people have noticed, Ben, and it seems not everyone is sad about it...

  7. Lunch at Sophia Gardenspublished at 13:09 BST 27 August

    Glam v Hants 98-4

That is the end of the first session in Cardiff and it is one that the hosts will feel they have had the best of.

Zain ul-Hassan took two wickets and Timm van der Gugten and Dan Douthwaite one apiece as Hants struggled early in difficult swinging and seaming conditions.

Jake Lehmann (28) and captain Ben Brown (8) are unbeaten at lunch and have tried to take the fight to Glam in the last few overs before the break.

They will continue, no doubt, after the interval as digging in is not really in their DNA.

  8. 'Glam on top on day one'published at 13:09 BST 27 August

    Glamorgan v Hampshire 98-4

    Cennydd Davies
    Commentator on BBC Radio Wales

Glamorgan are in the ascendancy on the first day of their Championship match against Hampshire at Sophia Gardens .

After winning the toss and electing to bowl the side took full advantage of a bowler friendly wicket, aided by murky overcast conditions.

Nick Gubbins fell before the players were forced off for bad light, Zain ul Hassan took the wicket of Toby Albert and after some resistance trapped Ali Orr LBW for 36.

Tom Prest was the final wicket to fall as he was bowled by Dan Douthwaite.

At lunch on the first day the visitors Hampshire are 98-4

    Glamorgan v Hampshire 98-4

    Yorkshire 84-2 v Leicestershire

    Division Two

    Durham v Gloucestershire 95-5

No play in the other five games, yet... but Essex v Surrey will hopefully be under way in around 30 minutes from now while there will be an inspection at Northants at 13:45 BST.

  10. Lunch at Hovepublished at 13:04 BST 27 August

    Sussex v Somerset 93-4

An exciting morning at Hove with the heavy weather having cleared to allow a full session.

Sussex sent Somerset in and Tom Lammonby fell early, flicking a catch to long leg, before Josh Thomas and Archie Vaughan took the visitors to 48-1.

Two excellent deliveries brought two wickets for Henry Crocombe in three balls before Vaughan also steered a catch to long leg.

Tom Abell, 34, and James Rew, 10, have got Somerset through to lunch but they have work to do this afternoon.

  11. Lunch at Scarboroughpublished at 13:04 BST 27 August

    Yorks 84-2 v Leics

England leggie Rehan Ahmed is tossed the ball to take us to lunch.

James Wharton takes a single from it and that's that as Yorkshire recover well from a nightmare start

Josh Davey gave Leicestershire a terrific platform with two wickets from his first seven balls, removing openers Adam Lyth (4) and Will Luxton (2).

But the Foxes have struggled to take advantage since as a patient knock from Sam Whiteman (32) and positivity from Wharton (44) have taken the hosts to the interval without further damage.

    Their partnership is worth 78.

  12. Lunch at CLSpublished at 13:03 BST 27 August

    Durham v Glos 95-5

Daz Ahmed (7*) and James Bracey (44*) get through to lunch, but it has been very much Durham's morning.

Brydon Carse struck twice in his opening two overs as the visitors fell to 13-3 but Ollie Price (27) and Bracey steadied he ship before Kasey Aldridge picked up two quick wickets late in the session.

Top versus bottom in Division Two, and it's looked like it for much of the morning,

  13. Postpublished at 13:02 BST 27 August

    Glam v Hants 85-4

Both these Hants batters, Jake Lehmann and Ben Brown, are naturally aggressive players and area scoring at a run a ball or as good as.

But they need to stay together for this last over before lunch as Dan Douthwaite looks to make one last breakthrough.

  14. Postpublished at 12:58 BST 27 August

    Glam v Hants 82-4

So close to a second wicket in consecutive balls for Dan Douthwaite as Ben Brown tries to fend a rising delivery into the off side and very nearly feathers it through to Chris Cooke.

Brown gives his head a shake but stays positive and crunches the next ball through cover for four.

  15. 'They've sucked the life out of Leicestershire'published at 12:57 BST 27 August

    Yorks 82-2 v Leics

    Adam Whitty
    BBC Radio Leicester commentator

If you'd have watched the first 15 minutes you would have thought it was a nightmare pitch and it was going to be really tricky.

But these two as a batting pair and also the conditions seem to have just sucked the life out of Leicestershire.

  17. wicket

WICKETpublished at 12:55 BST 27 August

    Prest b Douthwaite 0 (Glam v Hants 78-4)

Dan Douthwaite was all over the place in his first over but has it bang on the money in his third over.

A great line and length beats Tom Prest, clipping the top of off stump at pace.

Hants are in a hole with six minutes to go before lunch.

  18. wicket

WICKETpublished at 12:52 BST 27 August

    Boorman c Robinson b Aldridge 0 (Durham v Glos 81-5)

    Kasey Aldridge with a peach.

He shapes one away from poor Tommy Boorman who has to follow it and glances an edge through to Ollie Robinson who holds on this time.

Durham have their fifth scalp and Daz Ahmed joins James Bracey in the middle just trying to get through to the interval.

  19. Postpublished at 12:51 BST 27 August

    Yorks 81-2 v Leics

Too full again from Tom Scriven and Sam Whiteman times the pants off a drive through the covers to move into the 30s.

Other than Josh Davey's five-over opening spell, no other bowler has really troubled the Yorkshire batters this morning.

Will he get another burst before lunch?

  20. Postpublished at 12:50 BST 27 August

    Sussex v Somerset 82-4

Runs flowing again for Somerset on an all-action morning.

First the right-handed Tom Abell and then the southpaw James Rew flick balls too straight from Henry Crocombe to the midwicket fence.

But then some luck for Abell as he pulls Crocombe and gets a big top edge that flies over long leg for six.
