Glamorgan captain Kiran Carlson is dismissed for 99

Glamorgan made a fight of it on the final day but in the end fell short on a difficult batting surface.

Kiran Carlson looked like the key overnight and did go on to make 99 but when he fell to Ajaz Patel the game looked up.

Leicestershire still had to be patient as Mason Crane and Chris Cooke almost took the match to lunch but with Ian Holland taking three wickets today to give him five in the innings and nine in the match they got there in the end, including that of last man Ray Toole.

The Foxes will hope there is no after-match issue with the pitch because this victory, their second of the season, has put them in touching distance of the safety places in Division One.

For Glamorgan the title still can't be ruled out as they are just 25 points behind leaders Notts but they're closer to relegation and still have work to do to preserve their top flight status.

    Lancs 137 & 106-8 v Northants 284 & 298-4d

Yuzvendra Chahal sends down the final over before lunch and it costs a single from Ben Walkden who nudges his score on to 12 with Noman Ali unbeaten on 3.

Northants have absolutely dominated that session and are just two wickets away from a victory which will shore up their promotion push and compound Lancs' miserable season.

Inexperience has cost the hosts with a few avoidable dismissals including Rocky Flintoff who took on a trap and fell straight in and Joe Moores who was given out obstructing the field after catching the ball in the crease.

From 24-2 at the start of play Lancs have lost 82-6. It will be short and sweet after lunch you suspect.

Re Paul (12:55 BST): That will only happen if the Lancashire board focuses more on cricket than concerts. I don't hold much hope.

    Middlesex 249 & 300-8 v Kent 350 & 254

It looked all over for Middlesex at Merchant Taylors' School when Toby Roland-Jones was dismissed to leave them on 225-8, chasing a target of 356.

But Joe Cracknell and Tom Helm had other ideas and an unbroken stand of 75 has given the home side hope of pulling off an against-the-odds win.

The total reaches 300 in the final over before the interval as Helm tickles Matt Parkinson fine and they pick up three runs.

Kent have taken four wickets this morning after the home side resumed on 186-4 - two for Matt Quinn, and one each for Matt Milnes and Keith Dudgeon.

    Crane lbw b A Patel 13 (Leics v Glam 213-9 - target 257)

Leicestershire one wicket away. Ajaz Patel strikes Mason Crane on the front pad and there's no surprise when the umpire's finger is raised.

Number 11 Ray Toole comes to the crease with Glamorgan still 44 runs short.

    Balderson c Bartlett b Harrison 6 (Lancs 99-8 v Northants - Target 446)

Calvin Harrison finds the inside edge of George Balderson's bat and the ball squirts to George Bartlett at short square leg.

It was not a clean take but as he falls back he gathers it 'up the jumper' style. Lancs are on their way out of here and it has been a sorry effort.

    Glos 360-6 v Worcs - lead by 243

James Bracey has dominated the morning session and he collects a single from the final ball bowled by Fateh Singh to take lunch on 114 not out.

That is also a 50 partnership between him and Ed Middleton which has Gloucestershire pondering their options.

They have a lead of 243 and there are 66 overs left in the day.

Will captains Cameron Bancroft and Brett D'Oliveira have a discussion in the next half-hour to try to make the afternoon interesting?

  9. Lunch at Tauntonpublished at 13:05 BST 23 August

    Somerset 469 v Essex 158 & 394-7 - lead by 83

Essex avoid further damage in Jake Ball's final over of the morning session but have a lot of batting to do this afternoon to stave off the prospect of defeat at Taunton.

It has been a Jack Leach masterclass this morning, Somerset's left-arm spinner bowling throughout to pick up all four wickets which have fallen and he has figures of 5-77 from 53 overs - and 9-114 in the match.

Charlie Allison (114) and Matt Critchley (94) extended their overnight stand to 212 before both fell to the left-armer in the space of six overs.

Simon Harmer and Shane Snater are the not out batters at lunch, on 22 and 14 not out.

  10. Lunch at Southamptonpublished at 13:03 BST 23 August

    Hants 179-6 v Yorks - Target 278

They are off for lunch and Yorkshire will have a sour taste in their mouths for the first few bites.

Dom Bess and Yorks are furious after an appeal for a catch which was out, but you have to sympathise with the umpires.

Andrew Neal edges the ball behind down into the turf but it has bounced off the right boot of Finlay Bean and into the hands of George Hill at slip.

The batter quite rightly feels that has gone to ground and without the benefit of replays the umpires decide that is not out.

They are wrong but it is an easy mistake to make.

    Cooke lbw b Holland 33 (Leics v Glam 213-8 - target 257)

Just as this looked to be slipping away from Leicestershire, they strike before lunch.

The umpteenth LBW appeal of the morning is answered in the affirmative and Chris Cooke's resistance is finally broken. Ian Holland has his fourth wicket of the innings and eighth of the match.

Glamorgan need 44 more runs, Leicestershire two wickets and the morning session has been extended.

Ten off the over from Dom Bess and the best of them is a slog over deep midwicket for six by Andrew Neal, who moves to 18 from 17 balls.

The 26-year-old, who scored 110 in 63 balls against Derbyshire in the One-Day Cup earlier this month, is not going to die wondering.

Well batted Joe Cracknell, who pulls a short one from Matt Milnes through mid-wicket for four to reach 50 from 81 balls.

He's in decent nick at the moment, having scored 128 against Sussex in the One-Day Cup earlier this month.

    Leics v Glam 204-7 - target 257

Just as the Glamorgan captain Kiran Carlson starred with the bat so his Leicestershire counterpart Ian Holland is impressing with the ball.

Glamorgan can't score runs against him. He's conceded just 18 in 21 overs in this innings and has seven wickets in the match.

    Somerset v Essex 389-7 - lead by 78

Somerset decide to give Jake Ball what will probably be a two-over burst before lunch as Archie Vaughan takes a breather.

There is a hint of inswing in his opener which yields just a single for Shane Snater to the Essex cause.

A Cheltenham century for James Bracey!

He nudges a single into the covers off Fateh Singh for his 19th first-class ton.

This has come off 128 balls with 10 fours and two sixes and it has changed the complexion of this game for Gloucestershire.
