The owner of a £1m lottery ticket bought in Greater Manchester has come forward to claim the prize.

The hunt had been on to track down the winner after the ticket was bought in Tameside in the summer, with the £1m prize due to expire in December.

But after an appeal by the National Lottery, the millionaire-to-be has now come forward to claim the life-changing prize, four months after the draw.

"This lucky winner has spent the last four months completely unaware they were sitting on a life-changing sum of money," Andy Carter, senior winner's advisor at Allwyn, operator of The National Lottery, said.

"Then, almost overnight, everything changes."

"We are delighted that the winner has come forward to claim their prize," he added.

"It's a moment that will stay with them forever and we're excited to support them as they begin this next chapter."

The winner has remained anonymous while the claim is validated and will then decide whether to go public.
