The family of a father-of-two killed after a car crashed through the entrance of a Lidl supermarket have paid tribute to his "kindness, generosity and wonderful sense of humour".

James Singh Jagpal, 39, was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash in Wolverhampton, which emergency services were called to just before 18:00 BST on Friday.

"James was the absolute centre of our world, and it is unimaginable how we will navigate life without him by our side," his family said in a statement issued by police.

They added: "We would like to express our sincere gratitude to the staff, customers and emergency services who immediately came to James's aid at the scene."

Two people who also suffered serious injuries inside the building have now been discharged from hospital, West Midlands Police said.

The driver, a woman in her 70s, has also been released from hospital and will be "spoken to in due course", police said.

Four people were also treated by paramedics and discharged at the scene.

Singh, from Wolverhampton, was described as "a much-loved son and brother, devoted partner of over 20 years and loving father to two wonderful daughters".

His family has also urged the public not to share distressing footage of the aftermath online.

Floral tributes have been left at the scene and the store remains closed as work to repair the damage is underway.

West Midlands Police said the man's death was not being treated as suspicious and has issued an appeal for anyone who was driving in the area between 17:00 and 18:00 BST to contact the force.

A spokesperson said: "We want to understand what might have caused the collision and would especially like to see any dashcam footage which might show the car involved.

"If you remember seeing a blue Renault Zoe immediately before the collision, please get in touch."
