A Dorset seaside town will once again attempt to break a world record by filling the streets with as many Christmas elves as possible.

Weymouth has been trying to beat a record set in Thailand in 2014 for the largest gathering of people dressed as elves.

Despite everyone's efforts, the Dorset seaside town did not claim the record last year, but there are hopes it can this festive season.

After the 2025 attempt, Business Improvement District (BID) leader Dawn Rondeau-Irvine said: "The record was 1,762 people and we got the numbers but just in the wrong order."

People are being encouraged to dress up as Christmas elves on November 28.

Those taking part have to wear a red and green elf hat, ears and red cheeks to be counted.

If they do not have what is needed, participants will be sent to the elf-ear-making workshop or the make-up department where they can get elf-ready.

"It's about bringing people into the town centre and supporting the businesses that make it what it is,” said Rondeau-Irvine.

"But it's also about showing the spirit of Weymouth - look what we achieve when we all come together, it's truly spectacular.

"A huge thank you to everyone getting involved, from the businesses dressing their windows to the performers, volunteers and charities. Come down, shop local and make a day of it."

Registration begins at 11:00 at Weymouth Pavilion and the result will be announced at the Christmas light switch on at 17:00.
