Construction of a £20m leisure centre is expected to be completed before the end of 2027, a district council has said.

Facilities at the new Deal leisure centre will include a six-lane swimming pool, gym, health and fitness studios, including a Pilates studio, a toddler splash pad and cafe.

Enhanced accessibility provisions include a new platform lift as well as a changing places toilet facility for disabled people.

After a topping out ceremony marked completion of the highest point of the building this week, Dover District Council leader Kevin Mills said "excellent" progress had been made on the construction of the centre.

Mills described it as "fantastic news", adding: "A brand new leisure centre with modern facilities is a major investment for our community."

Representatives from the council and partners in the project, including the developer, construction contractor and Everyone Active, which will manage the leisure centre, took part in the topping out ceremony.

Guests were invited to sign the steel frame of the new building.
