Driver gives lift to PC chasing cycling suspect

Police have thanked a "Good Samaritan" van driver who gave a police officer a lift as he was running after a suspect.

Surrey Police said officers were pursuing a suspected shoplifter, who was escaping on a bicycle, along Woking Road in Guildford on Tuesday.

A PC was "giving chase on foot when a friendly van driver intervened to offer a lift", according to the force.

"Working together, the van driver and officer were able to spot where the suspect had gone and get ahead of him," said police. The suspect was arrested at the scene.
