A man has been arrested on suspicion of murder following the discovery of a dead body found "partially in a wheeled bin" in the West Hoe area of Plymouth

Devon and Cornwall Police said an investigation was launched at 06:40 BST on Wednesday after a man's body was found off Grand Parade.

The force said a man in his 30s is in police custody. It added the identity of the dead man is yet to be confirmed.

Det Insp Chris Lithgow said the investigation was still at an "early stage" with a cordon remaining in place and anyone with information should contact police.

"Increased police activity will be seen in the local area over the coming days to provide reassurance within the community," Lithgow said.

Police have set up a Major Incident Public Portal which people can send information to as the investigation continued.

Information can also be given anonymously to Crimestoppers, a police spokesperson added.
