Plans to transform a former 20th Century fire station into a computer repair business have been unveiled.

The building in Mill Lane, Walton-on-the-Naze, Essex, was most recently used as public toilets, but has been empty since their closure in 2017.

Tendring District Council said it had struck a deal "in principle" to sell the property to someone from the local area for an undisclosed price.

However, it warned "significant investment" was needed to bring it back into use.

The prospective buyer wanted to use it for a computer repair and maintenance business, the independent-led council said.

Labour councillor Peter Kotz added: "The proposed sale would provide an opportunity for the building to be refurbished and brought back into use, while removing an ongoing maintenance liability."

Previous plans to demolish the building were halted in 2018 after opposition by residents.

The sale is now subject to legal agreements.
