A vacant building in Surrey could be brought back into use, according to a local authority.

Elmbridge Borough Council said it is bringing forward plans to return the Old Post Office building on Esher High Street to productive use.

It added the plans could support "local businesses, jobs and town centre activity".

The local authority said the property – which it described as "prominent" - had been disused since January 2025.

It added it had identified a preferred bidder, who intends to use the building as an office space, following an "extensive" marketing exercise.

The council said a local business is set to take a long-term lease of the building.

It continued that the proposal would help to increase footfall for nearby shops, cafes and other local businesses.

The occupier is also expected to invest in the building, the authority added.

If agreed by Elmbridge Borough Council at a meeting on 27 October, the East Surrey Shadow Executive would need to then approve the proposal.
