A man in his 20s has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder after a teenage boy was taken to hospital with life-changing injuries following a suspected hit-and-run incident.

Bedfordshire Police said it was called to reports that the boy was struck by a grey Toyota CHR while he was walking along Dumfries Street, Luton, at about 17:00 GMT on Tuesday.

The force said the vehicle failed to stop at the scene.

The man was also arrested on suspicion of possession with intent to supply Class B drugs. He has been released on police bail.

Det Insp Scott Fowler said: "The victim has suffered significant injuries and we are keen to establish exactly what happened.

"If you witnessed the collision or have any dashcam footage that captures a vehicle matching this description, please get in touch as this will help with our inquiries.

"We believe that the vehicle would have sustained some damage as a result of the collision and are asking for anyone who has seen this vehicle to contact us."
