Halloween superfan's home giving street a scare

Timelapse shows Andrzej Wojcik's Halloween house coming to life

Halloween superfan Andrzej Wojcik has transformed his home into a showcase for all things spooky.

The tradition is one he has repeated, with no fear, every Halloween for the last five years. His favourite part is his 1969 Jeep Gladiator dressed with skeletons, lights and pumpkins.

A BBC timelapse video captured the two-day effort that went into creating the display in Finchley Avenue, Mackworth, Derby.

"If I can do something, I like sharing it with others," Wojcik said. "I like to make other people happy and it makes me happy to see people enjoying my work."

Wojcik, 50, from Poland, added: "I've invested more time in the Halloween decorations than money, the main attraction is my car which fits the Halloween vibe."

He has "no idea" how much he has spent on the Halloween decorations. But his next display, for Christmas, has cost £10,000.

Natalie Crocker lives in the area and said she first noticed the decorations on the school run.

"I think it's brilliant. We walked past the house on the way to school and the kids were getting excited to see it complete," said the 39-year-old.

"This is like a professional job, you might pay to see something like this elsewhere.

"I think it's fantastic that people in the area put so much effort in for everyone else's enjoyment."

Wojcik's next door neighbour, John Wolley, said he enjoyed seeing the decorations from his own window.

"It's amazing, it's not too bright for us next door," said Woolley.

"It was so busy last year that cars couldn't get down the road and pavements were being taken up by lots of people, but it all adds to the fun."

Wojcik, who will start to decorate the house with 22,000 LED lights for Christmas as soon as Halloween is over, wants to do "something extra" for the community this year.

"My idea is to organise one special charity evening, when people could come and enjoy the light show while supporting a local charity," he said.

He wants to connect with a local charity that can attend the lights show and collect voluntary donations directly from visitors.
