Liverpool's River of Light festival will get under way later after its first three days were cancelled due to high winds.

The event featuring free public art installations was due to begin on Friday but was called off for safety reasons.

Artworks located along Liverpool's waterfront and in key locations across the city centre will be illuminated between 17:00 and 21:00 GMT each day until 1 November.

"After a brief pause while the storms passed through, River of Light will light up Liverpool City Centre tonight from 5pm-9pm!" said organisers.

The 2026 festival features 13 artworks.

The theme this year is "Together", which organisers said celebrated "connection, community and shared experiences".

In a post on social media Liverpool City Council said: "River of Light is back.

"The lights are shining, the city is glowing, and it's time to get back out there and explore.

"Wrap up warm, take care, and enjoy the magic of River of Light."

The local authority also urged visitors to keep across its social media channels for any further updates.
