Man held on suspicion of murdering woman, 79
LDRSA man has been arrested on suspicion of murdering a 79-year-old woman who was found dead at a house.
The woman was discovered in a house on Myddleton Lane in Winwick, Warrington, at about 13:40 GMT on Wednesday, Cheshire Police said.
She was pronounced dead at the scene. The force said a post-mortem examination had taken place but the cause of the woman's death was being "withheld pending further enquiries".
A 52-year-old local man, who was arrested at the scene, has since been released on bail.
Det Ch Insp David Hutcheon said: "Our thoughts remains with the family of the deceased in what will be a challenging time for them."
He said the force remained "open minded" as detectives tried to fully establish the circumstances of what happened.
Hutcheon added: "Home Office post mortem colleagues have now informed us that the cause of death of the 79-year-old woman is currently being withheld pending further enquiries."
He urged people to "think of the family at the centre of this investigation before choosing to engage in any form of speculation, particularly on social media".
