Floral tributes have been placed at the scene where a man died after a car crashed through the entrance of a Lidl supermarket in Wolverhampton.

The man, in his 30s, was pronounced dead at the scene after the crash, which emergency services were called to just before 18:00 BST on 23 October.

Two people also suffered serious injuries inside the building and remain in hospital, West Midlands Police said, while the driver, a woman in her 70s, was taken to hospital for treatment and has since been released.

"Thoughts and prayers for the young man who died, his family and friends," read a heartfelt message that had been tied to a bunch of pink flowers with a purple ribbon.

The note continued: "All injured, all shoppers, staff and this local neighbourhood".

The store, in Finchfield Hill, remained closed on Monday as work is under way to repair the damage.

Four people were also treated by paramedics and discharged at the scene.

"It was a massive panic. It was a horrible experience, chaotic, scary, painful," onlooker Tina Bonev previously told the BBC, while describing the scene of the crash.

She added: "Someone was shouting: 'Bleeding, someone is bleeding'.

"Children were screaming... I was looking for where I can exit.

"All of the aisles were blocked by the car."

She told the BBC the car had landed on top of the self-service tills after having "flown in" to the shop, estimating it had been travelling more than 40mph.

In a statement, Lidl said it was saddened by the incident and said the store would remain closed until further notice.

West Midlands Police said the man's death is not being treated as suspicious and has issued an appeal for anyone who was driving in the area between 17:00 and 18:00 BST to contact the force.

Sgt Chloe Collins said: "We want to understand what might have caused the collision and would especially like to see any dashcam footage which might show the car involved.

"If you remember seeing a blue Renault Zoe immediately before the collision, please do get in touch."
