High rope courses and a dry ski slope are set to reopen in Folkestone

Plans have been announced to reopen a dry ski slope and high rope courses in a Kent town.

The outdoor facilities were stopped when Folkestone Sports Centre closed in July 2024 after its owners went into administration.

The centre's current owner, The Sports Trust, has announced a new partnership with Boonies Outdoors to restore the open-air facilities.

Jay Ingram, funder and director of Boonies, said: "The opportunity to breathe new life into the ski slope and high ropes course, alongside developing plans for a new outdoor adventure and obstacle course facility, is something we're incredibly passionate about."

He added: "We're looking forward to working closely with The Sports Trust to create something truly special for Folkestone and the wider community."

The outdoor facilities company will relocate to Folkestone after nine years at Betteshanger Country Park.

It said it was developing plans for a new outdoor adventure and obstacle course in Folkestone, subject to the necessary planning approvals.

No timetable has been announced for the reopening of the outdoor facilities, which will operate independently of the main sports centre.

A spokesperson for The Sports Trust said it was "incredibly excited and grateful for the investment, enthusiasm and belief in the wider project".

Plans had previously been announced to reopen the swimming pool and indoor sports facilities on the site this year.

But those plans have been delayed, according to the charity.
