Parking fines generated almost £65,000 for Huntingdonshire District Council in 12 months

Car parking fines generated almost £65,000 over a year for a district council, a Freedom of Information request has revealed.

Huntingdonshire District Council in Cambridgeshire received £64,718.20 in revenue from car park fines between 1 October 2025 and 30 September 2026.

Failing to pay, wrongly parking in a disabled bay, and parking beyond the bay markings were the top three reasons for fines being issued, according to the Local Democracy Reporting Service.

The council said its car parks operated at a small loss, and that fines did not turn a profit for the authority.

The purpose of parking enforcement was "not to raise revenue," it said, "but to support wider objectives" such as improving town centres and addressing illegal parking.

At £10,306.08, the car park where fines generated the most revenue was at the Sainsbury's supermarket in Huntingdon.

At the other end of the scale were Huntingdon's Mayfield Road car park and the One Leisure centre in St Ives, where fines totalled £25 per site.
