A man has appeared in court charged with the murder of a woman who was found dead at a block of flats in the Republic of Ireland.

The woman has been named locally as Loredana Morosanu, who was in her 40s.

Her body was found at her home at Melville Terrace in Finglas, County Dublin when gardaí responded to an incident at the property at about 04.30 local time on Monday.

The court heard the accused, 47-year-old Daniel Simion Toader, who is Romanian, did not reply when gardaí (Irish police) charged him with murder.

The victim was originally from Romania but had lived in Ireland for several years.

The accused, also of Melville Terrace, appeared before Dublin District Court on Tuesday evening, dressed in a blue sweater, grey tracksuit bottoms and black shoes, according to Irish national broadcaster RTÉ.

He spoke only to a court-appointed interpreter and had no legal representation in court due to an ongoing legal aid pay dispute by Irish criminal defence lawyers.

A senior detective told the court that the suspect was arrested and charged with murder at Finglas Garda Station earlier on Tuesday evening.

He was remanded in custody until 3 November.
