A new junior Parkrun is being launched in a Surrey town.

The weekly 2km (1.2 mile) run in Meadowbank Park in Dorking will begin on 22 November.

It is aimed at children aged four to 14 and their families.

James Thomas, junior Parkrun impact and engagement manager, said: "These runs provide an opportunity for children to enjoy being active, build confidence and make friends."

A junior Parkrun is already held on Sundays at nearby Leatherhead Leisure Centre.

All Parkrun events are free, however participants do need to register in advance.

Joe Spraggins, event director said: "I'm really excited to help bring junior Parkrun to Meadowbank Park and create a welcoming, active and fun Sunday morning event for local families.

"The event is open to children of all abilities, whether they want to run, jog, walk or volunteer, and we hope it will become a positive and integral part of the community for years to come."
