A popular racecourse is due to "begin a new chapter" by reopening its gates next week.

There have been no fixtures at Chelmsford City Racecourse since March after the track's previous tenant, Great Leighs Estates Limited (GLEL), went into administration with debts of more than £22m.

The racecourse, at Great Leighs to the north of Chelmsford, will host its first meeting — an Autumn Evening Flat Racing card — under its new management firm Arena Racing Company (ARC) on Monday.

ARC operations director Kieran Gallagher previously said he was "delighted" the site would be welcoming horses and punters back to Essex's only racecourse.

The British Horseracing Authority confirmed earlier this month that four fixtures had been reallocated to Chelmsford. A licence for the return of racing had also now been issued.
