A busy road plagued by potholes will close overnight for repairs.

The A143 between Stanton and Ixworth in Suffolk has had ongoing issues since it was resurfaced in September 2025.

The county council's Suffolk Highways team said it would close the road on Saturday at 20:00 GMT until 05:00 on Sunday "to undertake temporary repairs to the most severely affected sections of the carriageway".

The authority said it would carry out tests "to establish why the road surface continues to deteriorate and to identify the most effective long-term solution".

The road, between Bury St Edmunds and Diss, underwent repairs on a number of occasions during the summer, when hot weather appeared to melt some of the surface.

Suffolk Highways said: "We recognise the continued frustration and inconvenience that the ongoing road surface issues on the A143 at Stanton are causing for motorists, local residents and businesses, and we understand the concerns that have been raised."

Suffolk Highways said details about further works needed on the stretch, "including timings and any traffic management arrangements," would be shared once investigations were completed.

"The findings from these investigations will then be used to develop a future programme of further works," it added.

"Once arrangements and dates have been confirmed, we will ensure local communities, elected members and road users are kept informed."
