The family of a man who died after being hit by a bus in Greater Manchester said they were heartbroken he missed the birth of his granddaughter by just one day.

Ross Grealey died after he was struck near Winifred Road in Stockport on 30 October, Greater Manchester Police said.

His son, who is also called Ross, said a baby girl was born the following day and wished his father had been able to meet her.

His daughter Carla Grealey described her father as "one of a kind" and said he was loved by many.

In a tribute his son said: "You're now a grandad to a beautiful baby girl, who was born just a day after this tragedy. I wish with all my heart that you could have met her."

"A little piece of you will live on through her," he said.

Carla added: "I'm truly heartbroken. I still can't understand any of it. I just wish it hadn't happened."

Staff at The Wellspring, who supported Grealey, said he was always ready with a story, a smile and a hug.

"He made our world a better place simply by being in it," the team said.
